Britain's Prince Harry has launched an international sporting event for wounded, injured and sick service personnel.
The 29-year-old royal has announced Invictus Games, presented by Jaguar Land Rover, which will give competitors the chance to take part in a number of sports, including swimming, wheelchair basketball, archery and road cycling.
The prince, who served 77 days on the front line in the Afghanistan war, will bring the Games to the UK following an inspirational visit to USA Warrior Games last year.
More than 300 countries are expected to take part in eight adaptive sports in London's Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the Lee Valley Athletics Centre from September 10 to 14.
The competition is being financially backed by the Royal Foundation, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Mayor of London and commercial partners and will air on the BBC.
The event will also feature athletics, indoor rowing, wheelchair rugby, sitting volleyball and a special driving challenge.
Captain David Henson, who hopes to take part, said: "Competitive sport has made all the difference to my personal recovery and rehabilitation.
"For a whole international community of injured 'brothers in arms' who flat out refuse to let themselves be beaten by their injuries, the Invictus Games in London will offer a memorable, inspiring and energising experience in their journey of recovery."
Harry also trained to be a Apache Helicopter Pilot with the Army Air Corps but has now taken an army office job and recently supported the Walking With The Wounded charity by taking part in a 200-mile trek to the South Pole.
A ceremony will be held to mark the opening of the Games and a closing concert is also being planned, building on the legacy of the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Britain's Prince Andrew is encouraging people of all backgrounds to apply for jobs at Buckingham Palace.
The Duke of York features in a new behind-the-scenes film about the royal residence in London and is leading a recruitment drive to get more people thinking about work with the Royal Household.
The 54-year-old royal was interviewed by pupils from Hackney University Technology College, who made the film with the support of the Mother London advertising agency, and spent three days with the prince documenting rare scenes in the palace.
In the film, he says: "There are a range of opportunities, and a range of skills, and a range of activities that go on in an organisation like this that are completely, as it were, hidden. You are only seeing in many cases what I call the neck of the swan. Keeping the whole thing going is a huge operation."
He went on to explain that running the organisation is "quite complicated" and he'd like to see the Royal Household help young people with work experience and employ apprentices.
Lauren Hodge, a 15-year-old student who directed the film, said: "We met people who we didn't expect to be working there, normal genuine people with unique jobs such as painters, antique collectors and many more."
She added: "The idea behind the film was to break the stereotype that people have about the palace, that only certain people can get jobs there and that the jobs available are limited."

Angelina Jolie's daughter was cast in 'Maleficent' because she was the only child that wasn't scared of her mother's costume.
The 38-year-old actress has taken on the role of the evil fairy in the upcoming adaptation of 'Sleeping Beauty' and has admitted that her now five-year-old daughter was only cast in the film because the other young actors and actresses were too scared of her costume.
She said: "The other three and four-year-old [performers] wouldn't come near me. It had to be a child that liked me and wasn't afraid of my horns and my eyes and my claws. So it had to be Viv."
The 'Salt' star also spoke about her character and her own casting in the film - which will tell the story of Sleeping Beauty from Maleficent's point of view - and claims people think she was the perfect choice.
She told Entertainment Weekly: "The exercise wasn't, 'how can we have fun with a villain?' It was 'what turns people evil and vile and aggressive and cruel? What could have possibly happened to her?
"It is really funny when people say you'd be obvious for a great villain."
Angelina has five other children - Shiloh, Maddox, Pax, Zahara and Knox - with partner Brad Pitt and says she's thrilled her new film has changed their opinion of Maleficent.
She added: "I heard Shiloh getting into a fight with another kid, defending Maleficent, saying, 'You don't understand her!'"
Maleficent is set for worldwide release on May 30.

BBC Three will close in 2015.
The BBC has confirmed plans to shut down the digital TV channel in autumn next year, moving all of its programming online to the BBC iPlayer service.
The closure of BBC Three is being spearheaded by director general Tony Hall as part of a plan to make £100 million in budget cuts, but the final decision is subject to approval from the BBC Trust.
According to a press release issued by the corporation, shutting down BBC Three would save £50 million, with £30 million of that money being pledged to support compelling new drama on BBC One. The savings would also allow the BBC to extend its CBBC channel by one hour each night and introduce a BBC One+1 channel.
In an email to BBC staff, Tony said: "I am certain that this decision is strategically right - but it's also financially necessary too.
"We should close BBC Three as a broadcast or linear channel ... I believe it's the right thing to do: young audiences - the BBC Three audience - are the most mobile and ready to move to an online world. 25% of viewing by 16-24 year olds is to catch-up or other screens and over the next few years we expect that to reach 40%. We recognise that, for now, most of this audience still do their viewing on television, and that is why we plan to show BBC Three's long-form content on either BBC One or BBC Two.
"BBC Three has an extraordinary track record - it's been home to 'Gavin & Stacey', 'Little Britain', 'Bad Education' and, right now, 'Bluestone 42'. I've also been seriously impressed by the current affairs I've seen - from 'Blood, Sweat and T-Shirts' and 'Our War', to Reggie Yates's outstanding reports from South Africa, ending just this week. You can be rightly proud of what you have achieved so far. I want you to carry on making programmes for young audiences that continue to break new ground."
BBC's controller of television Danny Cohen has promised the new online version of BBC Three will be "bold" and "ambitious".
He added in a statement: "The new version of BBC Three online will continue to have the things we all cherish most about the service - innovative comedy, unrivalled current affairs for young people, incisive and entertaining factual, and original entertainment. I want and expect us to keep making shows for young audiences of the quality of 'Our War' and the public service value of BBC Three's recent season on young people and mental health.
"BBC Three will continue to build on the comic brilliance of 'Little Britain', 'Gavin and Stacey' and 'Bad Education', of the entertainment value of 'Russell Howard's Good News' and 'Backchat'. And BBC Three will continue to commission current affairs of the pedigree of recent documentaries on Afghanistan, the Congo, India, South Africa and of course the tough challenges faced by young people here in the UK. What is changing is the way we deliver these programmes to our audiences."

Mark Wright and Michelle Keegan are set to join 'Strictly Come Dancing'.
The couple are in early talks to appear on the next series of the BBC One ballroom dancing competition this year once the brunette beauty's time on 'Coronation Street' comes to an end this summer.
Mark told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I have had interest from 'Strictly' this year and last year. It's a great show."
A source added: "Getting a high-profile couple like Michelle and Mark on 'Strictly' would be a massive coup for the BBC. They were both asked last year, but tuned it down for different reasons.
The time wasn't right for Michelle because of her 'Corrie' commitments, but now she is going to have a lot of time on her hands. Mark does a lot of work with ITV but he isn't bound by a contact so could do 'Strictly' if he wanted to.
The source added: "They have provisionally been invited for talks. Now it just depends on their schedules. Having a couple like them on the show would make for brilliant television. They are already big stars so it is sure to pull in bigger viewing figures."
The lovebirds - who got engaged in Dubai last year - vowed to never work together, but they are said to be tempted by the 'Strictly' offer.
The insider claimed: "They would ideally like to keep their working life separate, but if the BBC comes up with a big financial offer, they could be swayed."
