Jay Z and Beyoncé Knowles didn't attend Kanye West's wedding.
The 'Holy Grail' hitmaker, who was expected to be his close friend and collaborator's best man, reportedly decided to spend the weekend with his wife in The Hamptons, New York, in favour of attending the rapper's nuptials to Kim Kardashian, 33, in Florence, Italy today (24.05.14).
Sources told UsMagazine.com that Jay, 44, bailed on the couple's wedding at the Forte di Belvedere at the last minute, as he wanted to enjoy a quiet Memorial Day holiday weekend with Beyoncé and their two-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy.
Shortly before the extravagant wedding got underway, the 'XO' singer, 32, who is said to have a "frosty" relationship with Kim, also signalled to fans she wouldn't be present, as she posted a make-up free photograph of herself in bed on Instagram.
Jay and Beyoncé's absence came as a surprise, as the rapper has been friends with Kanye, 36, for more than 14 years.
The 'Bound 2' hitmaker first came to prominence on the rap mogul's influential 2001 album 'The Blueprint' and they have collaborated many times since then, including on their album 'Watch The Throne' in 2011, which later saw them embark on a sold-out world tour together.
Jay Z previously admitted he felt like Kanye's big brother.
Asked about their decision to tour together, he said: "It actually was really easy because of the relationship. It's always been a big brother thing and a respect thing."
A small number of celebrities jetted to Italy for the couple's celebrations, including John Legend's model wife Chrissy Teigen, actor Jaden Smith, rappers Tyga and Big Sean, and fashion designer Rachel Roy.
Jay Z's sister-in-law Solange Knowles attacked him in an elevator at the Met Gala after party on May 5 because she reportedly thought he was flirting with Rachel in front of Beyoncé.
P Diddy sent the couple his best via Twitter, writing: "HUGE blessings and congrats to @KanyeWest and @KimKardashian!!! Love is a beautiful thing!!"

A source told PEOPLE.com that Rich Wilkerson Jr., a pastor from North Miami, performed the ceremony, which was organised by long-time Kardashian family friend and celebrity event planner Sharon Sacks, who also planned Kim's second wedding to Kris Humphries in 2011.
Kanye appeared to be very nervous beforehand, swigging obsessively from a bottle of water.
An eyewitness said: "It was funny how nervous he was. He clearly knew the gravity of what he was about to do. This morning he was all smiles, but as it got closer, you could see that the nerves were kicking in. It's common for most grooms. I've seen it all before."
Another source told E! News that Kim arrived at their wedding venue with her grandmother, Mary Jo Shannon, shortly after catching a private jet with her bridal party, including sisters, Kourtney and Khloé Kardashian, and mother, Kris Jenner, from Paris, where the couple enjoyed a pre-wedding celebration at the Palace of Versailles on Friday night (23.05.4).
An eyewitness said: "A convoy of cars arrived at around 3 p.m. local time. Kim was in the first car, which was a Mercedes-Benz. They drove the car right up and her assistant opened the door and Kim dashed in. She looked to be wearing white.
"Kourtney was carrying her daughter Penelope and her son Mason--in a red-striped outfit--followed behind.
"Kris Jenner got out of second car wearing black suit. And she put a big professional camera on a strap on her shoulders. She has obviously been taking professional pictures to remember the occasion."
The 'New Slaves' hitmaker surprised the 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' star by proposing to her on her 33rd birthday on October 21 at AT&T Park in San Francisco.
The couple started dating just months after the reality TV star split from ex-husband Kris in October 2011 after 72 days of marriage.

He said: "In a room like that, where we were the only guitar band, it's easy to start feeling like an emissary for rock 'n' roll. If that's what people were talking about after the Brits rather than a nipple slipping out, that's a good thing. In a way, maybe it is a nipple slipping out."

Stephen Mangan was stunned to discover Barry Manilow is a fan of his.
The 'Episodes' actor recently met the legendary musician and was left speechless when he began quoting lines from his hit comedy show, which also stars Matt Le Blanc.
Stephen explained: "I was on 'Graham Norton' this week and Barry Manilow came over and started quoting 'Episodes' lines to me. And the idea that Barry Manilow knows who I am is incredible. It is a really bizarre thing."
The 41-year-old star also won a role in critically acclaimed Hollywood movie 'Rush' - which starred Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Bruhl - because the film's director, Oscar winner Ron Howard, was a big fan of 'Episodes'.
He added: "I did the film 'Rush' last year ... that was partly because Ron Howard watched 'Episodes' and loved it."
While Stephen is enjoying his newfound fame following the show's success, he is pleased each season is relatively short because it allows him to take on a variety of other projects.
He told BANG Showbiz: "The great thing about 'Episodes' is that it's two months of my year, unlike other American shows which require your whole year. My best friend Andrew Lincoln is in 'The Walking Dead' and it requires a whole year. 'Episodes', I love because it's two months ... it indulges my short attention span."

He told the Daily Mirror newspaper's We Love TV magazine: "Viewers love seeing him brought down a peg or two. They love him, but they love to hate him too.
"He is annoying because he has got it all. I think that's why Will Young won the first 'Pop Idol' - because he took Simon on.
"If the judges just say their pieces and there is no interaction between them, it's boring. There has to be a dynamic between them, and I think that's the case between us."
David was able to get under Simon's skin during the auditions when he pressed his golden buzzer to put through singer Christian Spridon - much to the horror of the media mogul.
He said: "I like camp acts - and he's very camp. Funnily enough, if people are too talent, I can actually find that a turn-off. I look for who's the most entertaining."

Dave Grohl has been inspired by the history of American music.
The Foo Fighters frontman travelled the US interviewing fellow artists from across the nation as part of the band's new album - and accompanying HBO documentary.
He told Billboard magazine: "After making 'Sound City', I realized that the pairing of music and documentary works well because the stories give substance and depth to the song, which makes for a stronger emotional connection.
"So I thought, 'I want to do this again, but instead of just walking into a studio and telling its story, I want to travel across America and tell its story.' "
It means the 'My Hero' hitmaker has been influenced by a range of styles for his group's next album - and their direction will "surprise" fans.
He explained: "As we were coming down from the success of the last record, I thought, 'Now we have license to get weird'.
"If we wanted, we could make some crazy, bleak Radiohead record and freak everyone out. Then I thought, 'F**k that.'
"[The goal is to make stadium anthems that startle. Instead of just] banging out these big choruses, because that's what we do, we're banging them out in the middle of instrumental sections that will take you by surprise. The music is a progression or an evolution, for sure, but it's a Foo Fighters record."
