"So many of my own family members have died of cancer so I thought this would be a great way of supporting Scarborough Hospital which does so much. I really spend a great deal of time with patients who suffer from cancer and various other diseases in order to learn more and the more I learn the more I realise that everyday's a blessing and I'm so lucky."
Sarah - who has daughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie with Prince Andrew - has worked closely with a number of charities in the past.

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon "re-enacted" their wedding at home for their anniversary.
The couple traditionally throw a lavish vow renewal ceremony on 30 April - the same day as their twins Moroccan and Monroe celebrate their birthdays - but this year began the day with a small party for their three-year-old children, followed by an intimate evening together.
Nick told Parade magazine: "We definitely had a good time. The first part of the day, we threw a birthday for them and their friends at their school, and then after that, once we tired all the kids out, we had a nice romantic rooftop evening and kind of re-enacted some of our wedding and engagement rituals that we do every year."
The 'America's Got Talent' host - who married Mariah in a surprise ceremony at her Bahamas home in 2008 - admitted last year's celebrations in Disneyland, Florida, were so "over the top", the couple deliberately opted for a more muted anniversary this time around.
He added: "So it was low key. I mean the year before, we kind of went over the top with Disneyland, so we kind of wanted to reel it in this year so everybody doesn't think that we try to do that every single year."
The 33-year-old star admitted he and the 'Hero' hitmaker always try to see the funny side in constant speculation their marriage is in trouble.
He said: "You kind of have to ignore it because every week it's something different, and if you paid attention to it, it actually probably would start really affecting you...There's no merit or truth to it. It's kind of humourous, really. It couldn't be further off from the truth, and it really affects the credibility of the so-called newspapers."

The plush Lake Hollywood Estates abode has been listed for $12 million, an increase from the $8.455 million he bought it for in 2012, TMZ reports.
Boasting five bedrooms and a whopping eight bathrooms, the 9,385 sq. ft home comes with an infinity pool offering stunning views of the Hollywood Hills.
Ashton, who snapped the place up before Justin Bieber could make an offer two years ago, hasn't has much luck with the home, however, since it was targeted by several 'swatting' hoaxes.
A prank burglary in October 2012 memorably cost the taxpayers of Los Angeles more than $10,000 in wasted police manpower and other resources.
The LAPD received a distress call from a person who claimed they were the victim of a violent home invasion robbery, but a 12-year-old prankster turned out to be behind the joke.

The 52-year-old actor will star in the series 'Arthur & George', based upon the Julian Barnes' 2005 novel of the same name, which follows a real-life case solved by the legendary author.
The 'Men Behaving Badly' star will portray Conan Doyle as he attempts to clear the name of a wrongly accused Anglo-Indian solicitor, George Edalji, as well as tracing his relationship with his first wife.
The three-part drama will be penned by 'Silent Witness' and 'Waking the Dead' writer Ed Whitmore and is set to go into production this autumn.
ITV's director of television Peter Fincham has described the upcoming adaptation as "an extraordinary mystery with racial overtones". Adding that it is "a very modern story" despite its early 20th Century setting.
Martin will also reprise his role as Dr Martin Ellingham in the ITV medical comedy drama 'Doc Martin' for a seventh series in 2015.
The BAFTA-winning actor recently discussed how playing a doctor gave him the confidence to intervene with his wife's medical care when she fell ill.
Doctors were close to removing his wife Philippa's appendix until Martin advised them "it was the wrong thing to do".
He said: "I do think I've absorbed [some knowledge] as my wife frequently tells me, but I am always interested in people's medication and ask what they've been prescribed."

Diane Parish feels "revived" by her current 'EastEnders' storyline.
The actress, who plays Denise Fox in the BBC One soap, admits she wasn't happy with the lack of storylines for the Minute Mart shopkeeper, but is now relishing in her expanded role due to the Lucy Beale murder mystery.
She said: "I don't feel exhausted by all of this Lucy Beale murder drama - I feel revived! It's no secret that I had been quite quiet in the show for a while, so when I heard about this storyline and what our new boss Dominic [Treadwell-Collins] had planned for Denise, I was dead excited."
Denise was set to walk out on fiancé Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) - who recently cheated on her with ex-wife Jane - last month, but ultimately decided to stay with him after news broke of his daughter Lucy's grisly death.
Diane doesn't agree with Denise's decision as the character has been "humiliated" by her cheating partner.
She told Inside Soap magazine: "I don't think Denise has done the right thing in staying with Ian at all, but that's just me. I'm nothing like Denise, I hope!
"She's been totally humiliated by Ian because she has literally become 'the help' - and that's not what she wanted from the relationship at all. But she can't leave him because she couldn't bear to be seen as a bad person for abandoning Ian at his time of need."
