Jennifer Lopez's soul felt "diminshed" after she suffered abuse from a previous partner.
The 'Booty' hitmaker spoke out in her memoir, 'True Love', about the emotional and mental abuse she received from an unnamed ex.
In an excerpt obtained by PEOPLE magazine, Jennifer wrote: "I've never gotten a black eye or busted lip, but I have been in relationships where I felt abused one way or another: mentally, emotionally, verbally.
"I know what it feels like for your soul to be diminished by the way your loved one is treating you."
She added: "Every day that you don't walk out that door, every day you accept things in your partner and in yourself, is a day that you're saying, 'It's OK'."
Meanwhile, in the book, the 45-year-old singer also revealed details about her previous relationships with high-profile stars such as Ben Affleck.
She also recounted the moment she made the decision to end her marriage with Marc Anthony after suffering a panic attack at a photoshoot.
She explained: "Anybody looking from the outside in would have thought my life was great. I had a husband and two beautiful children [Emme and Maximilian].
"I was on 'American Idol' and my new single 'On the Floor' had gone to number one all over the world. What people didn't know was that life really wasn't that good. My relationship was falling apart and I was terrified."
She added: "It was one of those moments when you're so scared you can't even scream. In a blur of fear and panic, I looked at Benny and my mother and blurted out the words: 'I don't think I can be with Marc anymore.' Then I burst into tears."

Nick Jonas has admitted that he has to work to make people take him seriously.
The 22-year-old - who was in a band with his siblings, the Jonas Brothers, for eight years - has admitted that his image as a Disney star has meant he needs to work harder to secure more serious acting roles.
He told Digital Spy: "I met with my team about, I'd say, nine months ago and said, 'Look, I wanna be the kind of artist that can do music and acting'. Both are a priority for me and both have been for my whole life.
"I looked for some roles and this part for a TV show called 'Kingdom' came up and I had to fight really hard for it."
He added: "There was a lot of bias towards me; mostly to do with my previous exposure.
"I think being a Jonas in a lot of ways actually hurt me in getting the role but I got it, thankfully, and pushed myself emotionally and physically. It's been getting a really great reception and I'm just blown away by the reaction to the show."
Meanwhile, Nick recently admitted that it would be "ideal" to marry girlfriend Olivia Culpo one day.
He said: "I met her at a Fashion Week party a couple years back. It's been an amazing year and a half now. She's the best."
When asked if he is considering marrying her, he added: "At some point. It would be ideal [to settle down], but we're still quite young and we're going on a journey."

Kris Jenner's children lacked confidence when they were younger.
The 58-year-old television personality and mother to six - Kourtney, 35; Kim, 34; Khloe, 30; Rob, 27; Kendall, 18 and Kylie, 17 - was desperate to be supportive towards her children during the "real chubby stage" in their childhood.
Speaking on 'The Dr. Oz Show', she said: "They were just like other kids where it was that real chubby stage.
"Everybody went through it. They had braces, they were awkward. Rob was chubby and that's when kids need you the most."
She added: "We're such a close family we're always encouraging one another. I think just to be a real supportive parent and tell them how much they are loved and how beautiful they are on the inside.
"As long as they were okay on the inside, then everything else would be gravy."
Meanwhile, Kris also revealed that she wanted her children to feel self-confident as they grew up.
She said: "Putting the girls and Rob, now, on magazines definitely sells them, but I taught the kids a long time ago that it starts with when they were younger.
"I've tried hard to raise strong daughters and give them a sense of self-esteem."

Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis named their baby at a basketball game.
The 'Two and a Half Men' star - who had baby Wyatt Isabelle with fiance Mila last month - has revealed that they chose the name whilst watching the Los Angeles Lakers play.
Speaking on 'Conan', Ashton said: "We were going to a Lakers game and I've got name Tourette's.
"I just started listing off anything and everything that I saw. I was like, 'Sign! Truck! Wall! Door!' She's like, 'Shut up!' I'm like, 'If you don't accept my bad ideas, you'll never accept the good ones.'
"Then I was like, 'Alright I've got a really dumb idea. What about Wyatt?' She goes, 'That's it.' I was like, 'Really? I did it?' She was like, 'Yeah, that's it.'"
Ashton also revealed that the couple gave the baby Isabelle as a middle name after being inspired by Mila's grandfather, Yitzhak.
"It has a little heritage," he added.
Meanwhile, the 36-year-old actor also revealed that the pair had a name picked out before they even found out they were expecting a baby but ditched it because the "energy" didn't feel right.
He explained: "We had another name picked out and we're like, 'Alright, this is the name.
"Then we got pregnant ... a couple weeks after we picked the name. But then when we were pregnant, the name just didn't fit the energy that we were feeling. We were calling it 'the baby,' but never by the name that we had given it.
"One night Mila was just like, 'This is not the name!' I'm like, 'OK! It's not the name.' I had to get the creative juices going."

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West want their child to be the next Albert Einstein.
The couple - who have 16-month-old North together - are hoping their daughter will grow up to do a job that she loves.
A source close to the pair told HollywoodLife.com: "What they're hoping for as parents is that [North] will find something that she loves doing every single day and, by default, make money from it.
"Whether it's being a writer, a composer, an artist, a teacher, an inventor of the next big idea, whatever - it will never be work for her because she's privileged enough to only do things that she loves and enjoys."
The source added: "[Kanye] wants her to live the life and become one of the greats like him, or Emily Dickinson, or Einstein, or Chopin, or Rembrandt. This is the life they want her to have and she will."
The 37-year-old rapper - who married the 34-year-old 'Keeping Up With The Kardashians' star earlier this year - is reportedly so keen for North to become a prodigy that he spends a lot of his time educating her with poetry and classical music.
The source said: "[Kanye] reads poems to her and plays all types of music for her including scores from the most renowned composers.
"He loves it when she scribbles on the paper in her bedroom or when she speaks her own baby language.
"He lets her explore life to the fullest because he wants her mind to know no boundaries."

Justin Bieber is reportedly "depressed" over his recent split from Selena Gomez.
The 20-year-old singer is believed to be heartbroken after the 'Come And Get It' hitmaker rejected any of his advances to reignite their relationship.
A source told HollywoodLife.com: "Justin has been really depressed. Nothing he's doing so far to get Selena back is working and it's put him in a really dark place.
"He went to New York for a change of scene to try and find new perspective; he's hoping Selena will come and meet up with him."
The couple - who have been dating on-and-off since 2010 - most recently ended their relationship after Justin was spotted having lunch in Paris with model and 'Keeping Up With The Kardashians' star, Kendall Jenner.
The pair reportedly split because Selena was annoyed with her popstar boyfriend for flirting with other girls in front of her face.
Meanwhile, Selena recently revealed that she had turned to celebrity pal Taylor Swift for support and advice, following her split from the 'Baby' hitmaker.
A source explained: "Taylor wants [Selena] to at least try taking a year off dating. She thinks she should date herself for a while, take the time to get to know herself and appreciate herself.
"But she's not going to force it, she's trying to lead by example this time, instead of forcing her ideas down Selena's throat, she realises she can be kind of pushy and she's working on that."

Kris Jenner is too "scared" to undergo more cosmetic surgery.
The 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' matriarch insists she hasn't undergone as many procedures as has been speculated and is doubtful she'll ever have any more as she is nervous of anesthesia.
She said: "I've had so much written about me, but no, no no. And I probably wouldn't do it again because it kind of scares me, being put under for that long."
The 58-year-old star did admit to undergoing a facelift and two "boob jobs", the first of which she had after having eldest children Kourtney, Kim, Khloe and Rob Kardashian, because "gravity" had taken its toll on her figure.
She recalled: "I've had a couple of surgeries, my first was after I had four kids. Gravity takes over, I had four beautiful kids but from the waist up it wasn't great, so I had a boob job.
I was so excited, I felt so good about myself, it made me feel like a million bucks."
And Kris - who also has daughters Kylie and Kendall with estranged husband Bruce Jenner - then went under the knife again to have her implants reduced because she didn't want to "look matronly" as she grew older.
She explained on 'Dr. Oz': "I was barely 30 years old when I had the surgery then 25 years later, I was taking to the same doctor and he was like 'I think it's time, let's do something, like a little tune up.' And I said, 'If we're gonna do that, I'm kind of over big boobs, they make you look matronly when you're older, I didn't feel good about myself, I felt heavy and uncomfortable, nothing fit right.' He said, 'OK, great, we'll take them out, clean it up, put smaller situations in' - I'm giving you guys way too much information, this is crazy. So I did that, and then about for, five years ago I decided to do a [facelift], and that's really the extent of it."

John Lydon thinks the internet is to blame for making a lot of young people "incredibly stupid".
The former Sex Pistols frontman has hit out at the worldwide web for being a hub of "mindless gossip and nonsense" and thinks it is problematic for youngsters nowadays because they spend all their time surfing the internet rather than engaging in physical conversations.
He said: "I think the internet is the road to idiocy and has made a lot of young people incredibly stupid and more involved with mindless gossip and nonsense.
"It's spineless, faceless, there's no face-to-face confrontation.
"You've lost the power of emotion and dialogue; it's just flimsy catchphrases. It's complacency.
"Facebook and Twitter are my arch enemies."
Despite disliking the internet, the 58-year-old singer is a big fan of TV advertising, particularly the 2008 Country Life butter advert he starred in and he insists fans of his group Public Image Ltd (PiL) should be too because the band would never have reformed without the sandwich spread.
He added to Shortlist magazine: "I couldn't give a tuppence f**k what a*******s have to say.
"I needed to raise some money to get Public Image back together and, having the good sensibility to have eaten a lot of butter in my life, I thought it was appropriate.
"Every penny I earned from that went into reforming Public Image.
"Music lovers should rejoice at that ... and have some buttered toast on me."

Taylor Swift can't imagine life without her famous friends.
The 24-year-old singer is good pals with singer/songwriter Lorde, model Karlie Kloss and actress Lena Dunham, and she feels extremely grateful for having such a close friendship group who she is constantly learning from.
She said: "I've learned something from every single one of my girlfriends.
"It's crazy to think that I didn't used to have some of them in my life."
The 'Out of the Woods' hitmaker has achieved worldwide success following the release of her debut self-titled album in 2006, but the blonde stunner is trying her best to ensure she doesn't turn "weird" and "unapproachable" because of her stardom.
She added to Metro newspaper: "My life is really abnormal now. But I refuse to let this whole thing make me weird, unapproachable and impossible to have a conversation with."
Taylor spent the evening with Karlie at the New York Knicks' basketball game last night (29.10.14) and she took to her Instagram account to post a picture of the pair at the match - which her home team lost 104-80 to the Chicago Bulls - and revealed the pair had a fantastic time at the spectacle.
She wrote: "Karlie and I had the time of our lives at the Knicks game tonight. See you tomorrow bright and early on Good Morning America!"
Earlier today (30.10.14), Taylor took to the stage in Times Square, NYC, to perform three of her new songs, 'Shake it Off', 'Out of the Woods' and the very apt 'Welcome to New York' - from her new album '1989', which is expected to sell 1.2 million copies in its first week alone - on morning show 'Good Morning America'.
In between her set, the star - who completed her 86-date 'Red' tour in June - revealed she is going to be heading back on the road "very soon".
Speaking to show host Robin Roberts, she said: "I am going to be going out on tour very soon! We're in the early stages of planning the actual show.
"I'm excited about announcing things when I can announce them, but it's going to be happening!"
Taylor - who moved to New York earlier this year - looked sublime as she performed in Times Square in a military-inspired dark blue pair of high-waisted shorts with gold detail as well as a blue top featuring gold thread detailing, and she teamed her look with a pair of striking gold heels.

Royal

Prince Harry lent his support to the Poppy Appeal in London earlier today (30.10.14) by helping to raise money.
The 30-year-old royal was joined by Barbara Windsor and other entertainment stars to raise support and awareness of the Poppy Appeal, which raises money for servicemen and women past and present.
The Prince was joined on his tour of the capital by 'EastEnders' actress Lacey Turner and singer Joss Stone, in addition to former and serving personnel from all three branches of the military.
Harry made his way across the capital using a London bus, which took him from Covent Garden to Leadenhall Market as he promoted The Royal British Legion's London Poppy Day, which raised £1 million in 2013.
And thanks to the presence of 2,500 uniformed personnel, veterans and supporters, the campaign enjoyed its most successful single-day collection of its kind in the country.
The bus was driven by Sir Peter Hendy, the commissioner of Transport for London.
The vehicle ultimately made its way to Downing Street, where everyone on-board was greeted by Prime Minister David Cameron, who took the time to talk to them and pose for photographs.
