Prince William thanks Commonwealth Games staff

Britain's Prince William was a surprise guest at a Commonwealth Games wrap party.
The 32-year-old royal - who attended a number of the Glasgow sporting events with wife Duchess Catherine and brother Prince Harry - thanked the 1,500 behind-the-scenes staff at a celebration in the Scottish city's Merchant Square and said it was a "huge honour" to join them in marking a "job well done".
He said: When Catherine, Harry and I visited last week we saw the slogan People Make Glasgow. It was written all over the city.
"You epitomise that slogan in the way that you ran the Games - with professionalism and great care, allowing the Games' friendliness to shine through.
"These were undoubtedly the best ever Commonwealth Games in history and you guys made it that way. You have helped to deliver a triumph."
William went on to thank the staff for their "dedication and professionalism" on behalf of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, and the entire country.
He added: "It meant an awful lot to the Queen that the Commonwealth Games, which are so dear to her, were in safe hands.
"Thank you for your dedication, your professionalism and most importantly for all you've done for the Commonwealth Games.
"I know that the people of Glasgow and the country thank you also."
As well as his appearance on stage yesterday (07.08.14), William also chatted with many guests at the event, including Tim Love, Ibrox venue manager.
He said: "Prince William asked what the secret to the success of the Games was, and to be honest I said it was more to do with the spectators.
"They were definitely there to really enjoy themselves and to get behind everyone. It was great to see everyone getting support no matter where they were from."

Helen Mirren to play Queen Elizabeth on Broadway

Dame Helen Mirren is to portray Britain's Queen Elizabeth on Broadway.
The 67-year-old actress' play 'The Audience' is to transfer from London's West End to New York next year, though no other members of the cast for the new production have yet been announced.
The production imagines the private meetings between the monarch - who Helen previously also played in 2006 movie 'The Queen' - and all her prime ministers over her 60-year reign.
It will open on 8 March and run until 28 June at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre.
Helen - who won an Oscar for her role in 'The Queen' and prizes at the Olivier and Evening Standard awards for 'The Audience' - has previously appeared in two Broadway shows, 'A Month in the Country' and 'Dance of Death', with both earning her Tony award nominations.
Meanwhile, the 'Hundred-Foot Journey' actress has admitted she gets stricken with nerves whenever she meets the queen and ends up behaving like a babbling "idiot".
She said: "When you meet the queen, a lot of people get immediately attacked with this appalling virus called 'Queenitis'.
"Which means you're incapable of making a single comment that sounds remotely natural. And you don't know what to do with your hands. And you babble like an idiot. Or you say nothing at all. And then, thank God, she moves on and you're relieved."

Siblings’ Charlotte Ritchie prefers unlikeable roles

'Siblings' star Charlotte Ritchie prefers to play unlikeable characters.
The 24-year-old actress was thrilled when she landed the role of "unforgiving, selfish, loud and obnoxious" Hannah in the new BBC Three sitcom because she finds it dull portraying nice characters.
Speaking to the RadioTimes.com, she said: "I know other actors who don't like playing characters people don't like, but I love it. It's boring to watch someone who is too likeable."
She added: "When I was younger I was always worried that I would only play quiet, retiring characters, but no one ever gave me a shy character. I was really happy to play someone like Hannah - it's fun to be someone like that. Like, as a joke. Not in real life...
The hilarious show follows Hannah and her brother Dan (Tom Stourton) as they attempt to navigate life in their twenties, but they mostly end up causing havoc for every one else they come into contact with.
Charlotte admits her relationship with her brother Luke, whom she writes and performs in a band with, is quite similar to Hannah and Dan's sibling bond.
She explained: "It's the same sort of rude bluntness. They have the same sense of humour, and my brother and I have exactly the same sense of humour, which makes working really fun. You can't get anything done if everything's really serious."

Coronation Street’s Rob Donovan to kill again?

'Coronation Street's Marc Baylis thinks his character Rob Donovan could kill again.
The 37-year-old hunk believes his nasty alter-ego is capable of becoming a serial killer after he murdered barmaid Tina McIntyre (Michelle Keegan) in cold blood in May after she threatened to expose his scams.
Speaking to Soaplife magazine, he said: "I'd like to think Tina was a one-off through desperate measures. But once you've done something like that, who knows if that switch can flick again? If Rob feels he has no way out, then who knows what he might do?"
Rob has kept his dirty secret underwraps since Tina's death and has let his brother-in-law Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) take the blame after he was arrested following the revelation that he cheated on his pregnant wife Carla (Alison King) with the brunette beauty.
However, Peter's father Ken Barlow (Bill Roache) could be the next one to find himself in a grave as Rob starts to worry when he gets the recovering alcoholic a new lawyer and sets up a campaign to free his son.
Marc explained: "Ken intends to pull out all the stops to get Peter released. He's so adamant Peter is innocent, Rob really begins to think he might not get away with killing Tina. He starts playing games and puts obstacles in Ken's way. Rob says the new lawyer must be useless if he was free to take on Peter's case."

Amelle Berrabah feared masculine image in Tumble

Amelle Berrabah feared training for 'Tumble' would leave her looking like a man.
The 30-year-old singer was worried she will lose her curves as a result of the intense training sessions required to get into tip-top shape for the new BBC One gymnastics show, and she was particularly concerned about her pert posterior disappearing.
She said: "I've noticed changes in my body and everything's tightened up. But I don't want to lose my curves - my bum has to stay exactly how it is.
"I've lost quite a bit of weight but I don't like that. I'd like to put on half a stone if I'm honest.
"I've also got some serious back muscles, which is a bit too much. I just don't want to look like a man!"
The Sugababes singer has a long-term boyfriend so insists she will not be finding love with her professional 'Tumble' partner Doug Fordyce - who was a member of 'Britain's Got Talent' 2010 winners Spellbound - but admits she can see why people fall in love in such shows.
She added to the Daily Star newspaper: "It was a shock to realise how physically close we'd be.
"The first time we did our floor routine, he told me to kick up into a handstand and the next thing I know he's grabbed me and my head is near his crotch.
"I was like, 'Oh my God, oh my God!' But you have to forget about that because you have to think about what you're doing.
"If you have that connection and you're with that person every day, I can totally understand how some people have fallen in love.
"I'd be lying if I said it didn't take a minute for my boyfriend to get his head around it as it's strange seeing your partner being held by another man in such close contact."
'Tumble', which starts tomorrow (09.08.14) on BBC One at 6.30pm, sees celebrities learning various different gymnastic routines with professional partners.
Several other celebrities will also star alongside Amelle in the show including ex-Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding, former 'The Only Way is Essex' beauty Lucy Mecklenburgh and boxer Carl Froch.

Steven Moffat reveals Jenna-Louis Coleman will be in Christmas special

'Doctor Who' showrunner Steven Moffat has revealed Jenna-Louise Coleman will be appearing in the show's Christmas special.
The writer-and-producer has revealed Jenna - who plays companion Clara Oswald - will be joining Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi in the festive episode and filming starts in a matter of weeks.
Rumours had circulated online that the upcoming new series could be Coleman's last, but in an interview with BBC Radio Wales on Thursday (07.08.14) Moffat said: "Peter and Jenna only wrapped on the show yesterday (06.08.14). We're not letting them off the hook because they're going to be doing the two premieres, then they're going off on the World Tour, then they're coming back to shoot Christmas. There's no let-up, not when you're on this show!"
Moffat attended the world premiere of Capaldi's first outing as the Time Lord, 'Deep Breath', at St David's Hall in Cardiff, Wales, yesterday and greeted the huge throng of fans that turned out to celebrate the new Doctor.
He was joined on the red carpet by Capaldi and Coleman as well as Daleks and Cybermen.
Capaldi was blown away by the fans reaction to him and said: "Thanks to everyone who came along today to help us launch the new series in style. Such warmth and an amazing turn-out. Thank you!"
On Thursday evening the trio attended a screening and Q&A at the BFI in London and Capaldi and Coleman are now set to head off on a world tour to promote the new series with stops in Seoul (South Korea), Sydney (Australia), New York (USA) and Mexico City (Mexico) finishing in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on August 19.
'Deep Breath' will be aired on BBC One on Saturday August 23.

Charlize Theron wants Tia Mowry banned from SoulCycle

Charlize Theron reportedly wants Tia Mowry banned from an exercise class.
The 'Young Adult' star was furious the 'Instant Mom' actress - who is most famous for appearing in Nickelodeon show 'Sister, Sister' in the 1990s - branded her "mean" in a recent interview so asked SoulCycle bosses to stop her using the facility as she was concerned about her privacy.
A source told Dish Network: "Charlize came in so p***ed off after Tia went to the tabloids about her, and she demanded we bar Tia from ever coming back. When the manager refused, Charlize just got angrier and said she'd go to the top to make it happen."
The source claimed Charlize said: "This nobody who was famous for a minute 20 years ago can complain to the tabloids about me but I can't expect you to protect me from hangers-on in your studio?"
Charlize's complaint comes after Tia, 36, claimed the rolled her eyes and said "Oh my God" when she tried to introduce herself to the 39-year-old actress at one of the classes.
She added: "I wasn't over-the-top. I know how to approach another celebrity. Charlize was just mean. I'm just being honest."

Crafty couple Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds love making gifts for one another.
The couple will celebrate their second wedding anniversary next month and will exchange handmade presents to mark the special day.
Blake told E! News: "Normally, we make something for each other. Because that's something that lasts and isn't something you just found and bought in a store."
The 26-year-old actress recently launched her own lifestyle website, Preserve, and admits her 37-year-old spouse has been "incredibly involved" in the project as she trusts his taste so much.
She said: "He's incredibly involved. We're involved in everything that the other does. But he's influenced my taste so much on things like home design, things that I never loved before I now love because of him."
The former 'Gossip Girl' actress is particularly pleased that Ryan is willing to "challenge" her when he disagrees with something, rather than just letting her go her own way.
She added: "There is nothing that goes through that I don't run by him.
"On the site, when I'm doing photo kills I'll say, 'What photos do you think? This one or do you think that one?' And I love that he challenges me. He's someone that I trust when he challenges me.
"And sometimes I do what I like more anyway and sometimes I feel that was the right way and then other times I think, 'Oh, shoot I should have gone with those photos or I should have gone with that writer.'
"That's nice. It's nice to have a partner in everything."

Liam Payne takes cake class

Liam Payne took a cake decorating class with his girlfriend.
The One Direction hunk and Sophia Smith paid a visit to Carlo's Bakery in New Jersey on Wednesday (06.08.14) and tried their hands at icing some sweet treats after admitting to being a "huge fan" of 'Cake Boss', the reality TV show about the bakery.
Carlo's employee Adam told E! News: "It was totally unknown. He tweeted at Buddy [Valastro, owner], and then he called the bakery [about coming in].
"They were just there to have fun. Totally spur of the moment. They didn't get to meet Buddy, Buddy is overseas, but they met his sisters."
And as well as undertaking a private decorating class - in which he decorated a blue fondant cake with white icing while Sofia worked on a pink and purple tie dye dessert - Liam was happy to jump behind the counter and serve customers.
Adam added: "He put on a Carlo's Bakery shirt, and he came behind the counter and helped out some customers.
"He even took photos with fans and signed some autographs.
"We had a lot of fun. The bakery loved having him."
And following the sugary session, Liam has now changed his twitter name to 'Liam Payne the baker'.
His profile description now reads: "I am a baker, i like to bake (sic)".
He also thanked Carlo's for the fun day out.
He wrote: "thanks so much for having us today was so much fun and thanks for all the goodies (sic)"

John Cleese’s daughter calls step-mum a ‘child’

John Cleese's daughter Camilla branded her new stepmother a "child" during a comedy set.
The budding comedienne took many shots at her father and the rest of her family whilst performing at the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland, most notably against Jennifer Wade, who, at 42, is 30 years her 'Fawlty Towers' star spouse's junior.
During her set, 30-year-old Camilla - whose mother Barbara Threntham was John's second wife - joked: "Recently we got a new child in the family - my new stepmom.
"My dad, about two years ago, married lucky lady number four, his soulmate du jour. She's great, we actually have a lot in common - we're both six foot, blonde and inappropriately aged to be married to my dad."
However, Camilla insisted she thinks Jennifer - who married her dad in 2012 - is "really nice".
She added: "But she's really nice and I'm not so that's different."
Camilla's late mother was married to the actor - who was her second husband - from 1981 to 1990, and the comic joked about the fact they have both married multiple times.
She told the crowd: "They've been married for almost 42 years - to seven different people. Not that the same time, we're not Mormon or anything like that, not even close.
"If most people have a family tree, we have a family tumbleweed, it just keeps rolling along picking up dirt and debris, nobody knows how they are related to anyone else, we just know not to f*** each other, because we're not Mormon."
She later subtly referred to her dad's third wife, Alyce Faye Eichelberger, as the devil or Lucifer.
The psychotherapist divorced the 'Monty Python' star in 2008 and secured a hefty sum in the settlement.
Camilla said: "[Jennifer] is so much cooler than the last one. Her name was Lucy ... fer. She was a treat."

Antonio Banderas shuns cosmetic surgery

Antonio Banderas wants to age naturally.
'The Expendables 3' actor - who split from second wife Melanie Griffith, the mother of his 17-year-old daughter Stella, in June -insists he won't be undergoing any cosmetic surgery to prevent the onset of wrinkles as he gets older.
Speaking to The Times newspaper, the 53-year-old acting veteran said: "I'm not going to touch my face. I'm not going to put Botox and all that s**t in it. No, no, no. I will get older naturally."
Antonio's handsome face has previously secured him leading roles in films such as 'The Legend of Zorro' and the documentary 'Truth or Dare'.
The latter starred Madonna as a young woman lusting after the actor and despite rumours that he resented his portrayal in the documentary, Antonio insists he saw it as one big "advertisement" for his good looks.
He explained: "I was at a hotel in Los Angeles and she invited me over for dinner where she handed me a VHS of the film and said, 'If you don't like it, tell me and I will take you out of the film. But I think you are gorgeous, I like what you do and so I am kind of being a girl fantasising about the possibility of having you' ... and I saw it, and all I thought was, 'Wow. This is like an advertisement for me.' "
Content with ageing naturally, the Hollywood star revealed that he's also happy with his view of the future.
He reflected: "I used to be searching for something and I didn't know what it was but now I just say, 'I'm fine. I'm OK. I'm not searching for anything. And that is when things start coming, and it all starts to happen again."

Cara Delevigne’s poor timekeeping disrupts filming of Pan

Cara Delevigne has been causing chaos on the set of 'Pan'.
The model - who plays a mermaid in the much-anticipated new film starring Hugh Jackman - accidentally missed her flight from Los Angeles to London, meaning she missed her cue time and filming was disrupted for the day.
A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper that some staff were "understandably annoyed", adding: "It's not like modelling, where there can be one big name on set that people pander to - movies are more expensive and involve a lot more people.
"There's a tight filming schedule and if someone who is pivotal in a scene isn't there, the whole thing goes out of the window. It's incredibly hard to pull back the lost time.
"But Cara had been in LA, so it wasn't like she could get there any quicker than the next flight. They just had to push it all back."
Cara, 21, was recently accused of falling asleep midway through an interview with US Vogue magazine, while photographer Tim Walker also said she slept for seven hours during a photo-shoot for Mulberry.
'Pan' will open in cinemas in summer 2015.
