Laura Mvula: Prince Charles is cool

Laura Mvula thinks Britain's Prince Charles is "really cool".
The 28-year-old singer met the prince and his wife Duchess Camilla last week at a Clarence House reception to mark the 100 year anniversary of music rights organisation P.R.S. for Music, and though she arrived late and didn't have the dignified meeting she had hoped for, Charles took it all in his stride.
She said: "I was aware that because it's cold outside, I had snot flying out my nose. My hair was kind of jagged and my shirt was half tucked in. But he was really cool."
As well as industry executives, Laura was joined at the reception by artists including Sir Paul McCartney, Lily Allen, Ray Davies of The Kinks, Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber and Queen's Brian May, and admitted she felt "inspired" by the gathering as it made her feel less "isolated".
She told Billboard: "I always feel inspired by events like this because it reminds me that there's somebody who cares about music, artists and songwriters in this country.
"I feel looked after, which is necessary when you're on this kind of lonely artistic journey, because sometimes you can feel a bit isolated."

Duchess Catherine wrote from the heart

Britain's Duchess Catherine wrote "from the heart" to a grieving mother.
The pregnant duchess - who is expecting her second child with husband Prince William - embraced Leigh Smith earlier this week after she spoke about the death of her three-month-old daughter Beatrice at a fundraising appeal for East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH), and the physiotherapist felt "honoured" to have the royal audience after previously corresponding with her.
Leigh said: "When I was originally asked by EACH to speak at the launch event, in front of HRH The Duchess of Cambridge, I felt honoured.
"In the weeks after Beatrice had died, and knowing that she was patron of EACH, I felt compelled to write to her and tell her our experience of the wonderful service that they provide. I wanted to highlight to her how important child palliative care, and in particular bereavement services are to families like mine who are facing their worst and most devastating nightmares.
"I was so touched to receive her reply, hand signed, and obviously written from the heart."
"Being invited to personally meet the duchess at the launch event was therefore pretty amazing and finding out it was to be held in the week that Beatrice would have turned one made it even more special."
And Leigh will "never forget" the meeting with the duchess - who was known as Kate Middleton before her marriage - or Catherine's genuine concern.
She is quoted by MailOnline as saying: "Meeting her was a moment I will never forget. She was very natural and engaging and when I mentioned the letter she asked me how I was coping and what services EACH had been able to offer since.
"She expressed her sadness at the death of Beatrice and as two mums of very similar age I could see that it must have been hard but she seemed to genuinely care which was lovely."

Queen Elizabeth to open school

Britain's Queen Elizabeth will officially open a new free school today (28.11.14).
The 88-year-old monarch and her husband Prince Philip will be given a tour of Holyport College near Maidenhead, Berkshire, South East England, before unveiling a plaque in front of 122 pupils, staff members and parents.
The school is state funded, providing free daytime education, but parents can pay £3,850 a term for boarders.
Though there are currently 122 students aged between 11 to 19, the school is able to accommodate 500 pupils, including 225 boarders.
The establishment - which is free from council control - was first proposed in 2012 and opened its doors for the first time in September.
The school is sponsored by Eton College - a public school where a number of members of the royal family have been educated - and students have access to some of their facilities.
Eton headmaster Tony Little previously spoke of his pride in the scheme.
He said: "I am not concerned what the model is.
"This is using a practical route to create something that I believe in and which is of great value to young people."

McBusted to launch underwear line?

McBusted want to launch their own underwear line.
The 'Air Guitar' singers - made up of Dougie Poynter, Danny Jones, Tom Fletcher, Harry Judd, Matt Willis and James Bourne - are keen to design a range of lingerie and have their partners model in the campaign.
Danny - who is married to former Miss England Georgia Horsley - said: "It would be hilarious to get McBusted underwear and get her to wear it. She's done lingerie ones before so that would be really funny."
The supergroup - formed of members of McFly and Busted - will release their self-titled debut album next month also revealed Dougie's girlfriend, singer Ellie Goulding, has been involved in the making of their new record and encouraged the 26-year-old bassist to sing more.
Danny said: "Whatever she said worked - my missus wants me to sing more too.
"But there's six of us singing so you have to stay out.
"Dougie has a great voice and we've put him up for a lot of parts."
Meanwhile, the 28-year-old singer has also been writing for fellow boy band One Direction but was disappointed to learn a popular track he had penned for the group - Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan - hasn't been properly accredited to him on online encyclopaedia, Wikipedia.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: "I wrote a track called Irresistible for One Direction that had 20 million YouTube plays. But on Wikipedia it has somebody else's name on the credits."
