Paddy McGuinness’ pre-show ritual

Paddy McGuinness calms his pre-presenting nerves by giving himself "five minutes to gather his thoughts".
The ‘Take Me Out’ host, who was recently announced as Fearne Cotton’s replacement as a team captain on outrageous panel show ‘Celebrity Juice’ and is set to co-host the new ‘Top Gear’, has admitted he still gets "nervous" before filming and always makes sure he has some time on his own to get in the right frame of mind for the sometimes "manic" job.
He told What”s On TV: "I get nervous before everything I do. I always have done. I think it’s good to be nervous, otherwise you can get complacent.
"Filming these shows can get a bit manic so, before every show, I try and have five minutes on my own to gather my thoughts – then out I go!"
The 45-year-old star recently admitted the offer to front ‘Top Gear’ alongside Freddie Flintoff and Chris Harris "came from nowhere" because he has never harboured any ambitions to present the programme.
He said: "I think it’ll appeal to probably a slightly broader audience, the way we’ve done it. It won’t just be something where you have be a real petrolhead to get anything out of it.
"Even back in the day when Clarkson and Hammond and May did it, the most popular parts of the show were the trips they did abroad, which, really, had nothing to do with reviewing cars or anything like that, it was just a road trip.
"It’s just about striking the right balance really. It was a show I’ve always enjoyed. I watched it since I were a kid, absolutely no ambition at all to ever host it or get involved with it.
"Just like anyone else, I was just a fan of the show. Again, it came from nowhere really. I didn’t have to think about saying yes. It has been an absolute joy to do. I can’t wait to see it on telly."
