One Direction’s songwriter has defended his right to audition for ‘Britain’s Got Talent’.
The ‘Best Song Ever’ hitmaker has penned big hits for a number of acts, but he has insisted his experience shouldn’t exclude him from trying to become a performer.
Ed Drewett said: "It would be wrong to discriminate against me because I’m a songwriter.
"This is a show to showcase talent in performing and that’s something I haven’t done yet."
Meanwhile, an insider has insisted there’s no way the show can portray him as a new "discovery" when his audition is shown tonight (17.05.14).
The source told the Daily Star newspaper: "You can’t pretend this guy is a discovery or that he’s come out of nowhere.
"His name may not be familiar to everyone, but his work certainly is."
However, a spokesman for the TV talent show has claimed he will be judged "on merit", with his career "clearly referenced".
He said: "His past experience is clearly reference on the show. Al contestants are auditioned on merit."
As well as his song for One Direction, he has also penned hits for The Wanted – ‘Glad You Came’ and ‘All Time Low’ – and wrote Olly Murs’ track ‘Dear Darlin”.
