Olly Murs feels excited to make his Soccer Aid comeback

Olly Murs is preparing to make his ‘Soccer Aid’ comeback following a bad knee injury.

The chart-topping pop star is set to appear alongside the likes of former England goalkeeper David James and ex-Manchester United star Patrice Evra in the upcoming charity game, which is being played behind closed doors due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Looking forward to the charity game, Olly said: "I honestly felt it might not happen with everything that’s going on, but everyone’s come together and it’s going to be a fantastic event."

The game – which is being played at Old Trafford in Manchester and will be raising money for Unicef – will also feature the likes of Jason Manford, Dave, Joe Wicks and Kem Cetinay.

Olly, 36, can’t wait to step out onto the pitch and test his skills against ex-pros and other celebrities.

He told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column: "It’s been a long road. I’ve had some ups and downs but walking out on the pitch with the guys this year is going to feel more special than ever."

‘Soccer Aid’ has raised more than £38 million for Unicef UK since the spectacle began in 2006, and the event generates funds to help kids get the best start in life.

This year’s match – which will see an England XI take on a World XI – will also help to slow the spread of coronavirus and limit the impact on children’s lives.

Every £1 donated until October 6 will become £3, thanks to the UK government and Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance.

The game was initially due to be held on June 6, but will now be staged in September instead.
