Nominees announced for Q Awards

Florence + The Machine, Foals, Ed Sheeran and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds lead the nominations at the upcoming Q Awards.

The artists scored three nods each in the audience voted categories ahead of the prestigious annual awards ceremony, which will be hosted by Christian O’Connell on October 19, 2015.

Blur, who released their surprise album ‘The Magic Whip’ this year, scored two nods and will battle it out against their former Oasis rival’s latest band Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds for Best Album and Best Act In The World Today.

Pop-electronic group Years & Years, indie-rockers Wolf Alice, pop’s breakthrough act Jess Glynne, Australian singer Courtney Barnett, acclaimed singer-songwriter James Bay and Liverpool indie quartet Circa Waves are among the 10 acts in the running for Best New Act.

‘Photograph’ hitmaker Ed, who is also nominated for Best Act In The World Today and Best Live Act, will go head-to-head with Sam Smith, Kanye West, Taylor Swift and Noel Gallagher in the Best Solo Artist category.

Meanwhile, Foals, The Libertines, Mark Ronson, Florence + The Machine and New Order are all up for Best Track.

Announcing the contenders tonight (23.09.15), Matt Mason, Senior Editor of Q magazine, said: "These nominations represent the very best talent from another inventive and exciting year for music."
