Noel Gallagher says the Oasis reunion began with him looking at Liam and saying “how you doing” after their long break from each other.
The brothers appear together in new footage released Friday (09.10.26) on Disney+ as bonus content in the streaming version of Don’t Look Back In Anger, the film charting their reunion.
The Britpop legends clashed throughout Oasis’ rise, from early 90s studio rows to the 2009 Paris bust‑up at Rock en Seine that ended the band. Noel quit and the pair were estranged for 15 years before announcing a reunion in 2024, the now-legendary Oasis Live ’25 tour.
In the new clip, Noel explains why there was no big conversation when they finally got in the same room together.
He said: “It’s like family is different. It is just different. If it was two geezers like y’know John Lydon and Steve Jones you know there might have been a sit down, but family is different, you don’t have to say anything. It’s as simple as that.”
The guitarist says people kept asking what was said when they met again.
He continued: “You don’t have to justify not saying anything to anyone else. Everyone was saying to me ‘what was it like?’ And I was like, it wasn’t like anything. And they’re like ‘well what was said?’ I just said ‘how you doing?’. That was it.”
Noel also talks about their mum, Peggy, staying neutral during the feud.
He recalled: “Even through the 16 years, she never took sides. She would never say… y’know she would never say anything.”
Liam chimed in: “She used to say ‘I am her favourite’.”
Noel quipped back: “She knows who the number one son is.”
Liam quipped: “She used to put all my pictures up and then when he came round she took them down and put all his pictures up!”
The documentary follows the brothers from their awkward rehearsals in Cardiff to being close again by the end of the tour. It shows how they went from barely speaking to doing a joint interview and rebuilding their relationship on the road.
In the film, Noel says their old issues faded: “All the little things that used to annoy us about each other have suddenly all gone away, it’s not a power struggle anymore, we’ve come out now as equals.
“We never used to text each much but now we text each other stupid videos like two mates would. We’re in contact way way way more often than we ever were. It was all forgiven without saying a word. I use this word to describe what he has been like, a word I never thought I would use to describe him, which is delightful.”
Liam said the reunion lifted a “weight” off his shoulders and admitted he hadn’t realised how much pointless drama had built up over the years.
He said: “It feels like a weight has been lifted. We all said s*** that didn’t matter. I didn’t realise it was coming out of my mouth, half the s***. That’s the way it is. The music brought us back together. Oasis man. Oasis saves.”
The Gallaghers will step back out together next year on the Oasis Live ’27 tour.
