Nile Rodgers: Lady Gaga’s more respectful than Madonna

Nile Rodgers says Lady Gaga was more "respectful" as an artist than Madonna in the studio.
The Chic frontman teamed up with the 32-year-old star on a cover version of his band’s 1978 disco anthem ‘I Want Your Love’ for their first album in 24 years, ‘It’s About Time’, and he said she showed a lot of appreciation for working with the music legend than the 60-year-old Queen of Pop.
In an interview with The Daily Telegraph newspaper, he said: "Gaga’s a different kind of animal.
"[Before recording] she said, ‘Nile, I want to know what’s in your mind.’
"She was incredibly respectful … That right there is a huge difference in personality."
The ‘Le Freak’ hitmaker produced Madonna’s second studio album ‘Like a Virgin’ in 1984, and said the superstar was determined to do things her way.
He recalled: "She knew what she wanted.
"I love that about her because if you’re that much of a believer I’d rather go with you … until it sucks. If it sucks, I go, ‘Er, you really don’t want to do it like that’."
The 66-year-old producer previously revealed that he tried to convince Madonna to change the key of her hit song ‘Material Girl’, which didn’t go down well.
In his 2012 ‘Le Freak’ memoir, he wrote: "I’d worked with so many international superstars, but I’d never come across such an iron will before."
Meanwhile, Nile previously revealed he splashed out $100,000 on a guitar for ‘Born This Way’ hitmaker Gaga.
The pair teamed up for a 2016 Grammy Awards tribute to the late David Bowie and Nile wanted to show his appreciation for his pal by sending her a "twin" instrument to match his.
He said: "I sent her a $100,000 guitar with 3,000 gold Swarovski crystals and gold leaf. It’s unbelievable. We have twin guitars – hers is gold and mine is silver."
The musician previously praised Gaga for being "groovy as sin".
He said: "Her talent is brilliant and she’s got the biggest heart in the world. She cares about people."
As well as Gaga, Nile Rodgers and Chic teamed up with the likes of Sir Elton John, Emeli Sande, Craig David, Stefflon Don and Mura Musa on ‘It’s About Time’, their first studio album since 1992’s ‘Chic-ism’.
The album was delayed for several reasons, including the deaths of Nile’s close friends; music legends David Bowie, Prince and Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell.
The ‘Get Lucky’ guitarist was also diagnosed with prostate cancer six years ago but was given the all-clear in 2014.
He underwent surgery for cancer on his right kidney last year, which also added to the delay.
