Nikki Sanderson "definitely" wants to be a mother in the future.
The ‘Hollyoaks’ actress has confessed she would love to have children one day but rather than making her feel broody, becoming an on-screen mother has satisfied her maternal urges for the time being.
She exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "I’m a maternal person anyway and I would definitely like to be a mum in the future but I’m very content with my two beautiful girls … There are two girls who play Minnie [her on-screen daughter] and I love spending time with them and having snuggles.
"I just love it, I’m loving being an on-screen mum and my two girls are just amazing."
The 30-year-old star plays domestic abuse victim Maxine Minniver in the Channel 4 soap and insists that while it’s been hard to see her character become a shell of her former self, she doesn’t let it affect her outside of work.
Quizzed on whether it’s difficult to separate Maxine’s feelings towards her abuser Patrick Blake (Jeremy Sheffield) and boyfriend Dodger Savage (Danny Mac) from her own feelings about the actors who play them, she explained: "It is easy because it is a job and you’re playing a character but I have so much love for them in real life.
"With Dan and Jeremy, I’ve got a lot of love for them because they’ve both been my on-screen partners and they’ve both been a big part of my life over the last two years."
Nikki is set to go up against ‘EastEnders’ stars Danny Dyer (Mick Carter) and Kellie Bright (Linda Carter) and former ‘Emmerdale’ actress Verity Rushworth (Donna Windsor) in the Serial Drama Performance category at the National Television Awards next week and admits she’s dreamed of being shortlisted for one of the prestigious prizes for years.
The brunette beauty added: "I don’t think there’s a word that can say how excited I am … I’ve been doing this for a billion years now and I used to go to the NTAs fifteen years ago and watch people on stage and I used to dream, ‘Oh my God, one day I would love for my name to be mentioned’, and now it’s a reality. I can’t believe it."
