Niki Caro set to direct Disney’s Mulan

Disney’s live-action film ‘Mulan’ finally has a director lined up.
Niki Caro is in talks with bosses at the mass-media firm about leading its stellar cast in the upcoming adaptation of the animated classic of the same name after her work on ‘The Zookeeper’s Wife’ was praised by its star Jessica Chastain.
If she accepts the role, 49-year-old film director will become the second woman at the studio to direct a movie budgeted over $100 million, but it’s no wonder top executives have faith in her as she previously proved herself and her talent when she worked with Disney on the 2015 cross-country drama ‘McFarland, USA’.
However, she wasn’t the only woman who had been approached to direct ‘Mulan’ as, according to ‘The Hollywood Reporter, ‘Wonder Woman’s Patty Jenkins and Michelle MacLaren was also in with the chance of landing the job.
Bosses are keeping details of the adaption under wraps but it’s believed it will be "more nuanced and elaborate" than the original movie, which starred Ming-Na Wen as titular character Fa Mulan and Eddie Murphy as small dragon Mushu.
The film is being fast-tracked to hit cinemas on November 2, 2018 and Disney are on the lookout for a Chinese actress to play the main character.
The studio bought the rights to the movie in 2015 and Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver are on board to pen the script for the forthcoming film.
‘Mulan’ told the story of the daughter of an old warrior who disguises herself as a man to take her dad’s place in the army and fight at war alongside her dragon pal and protector Mushu.
