Nicola Duffett joins Coronation Street cast

Former ‘EastEnders’ star Nicola Duffett has joined the ‘Coronation Street’ cast.

The 57-year-old actress – who played Debbie Bates on ‘EastEnders’ between 1993 and 1995 – has been added to the cast of the ITV soap, starring in the role of Lucie.

Nicola’s latest on-screen role will see her character befriend Yasmeen Metcalfe during their time together in prison.

In the upcoming episodes, Lucie will approach Yasmeen with a contraband phone, suggesting she calls Geoff from jail.

Nicola’s role in ‘EastEnders’ came to an end in 1995, when her character was killed off in a hit-and-run incident.

The actress subsequently starred in ‘Family Affairs’ as Cat MacKenzie, and in 2015, she even made a guest appearance in ‘Coronation Street’ as another character.

Meanwhile, Paula Wilcox is set to return to ‘Coronation Street’ this month.

The TV veteran – who previously made a brief appearance on the soap back in 1969 – will make her return to the cobbles after more than 50 years to play Elaine, the former partner of Geoff.

An insider recently said: "If Yasmeen pursues the defence that she snapped after endless cruelty at the hands of Geoff, then Elaine’s testimony could prove invaluable.

"But as this is ‘Corrie’ it won’t be plain sailing, there’ll be quite a few twists and turns along the way.

"Paula is only making a guest appearance for a few weeks but it’s a role she’ll relish sinking her teeth into. After all she’ll play a pivotal part in a storyline that’s had the nation gripped."
