Nicki Minaj: My next album will reflect my happiness

Nicki Minaj’s next album will be full of happy songs.

The ‘Anaconda’ hitmaker admits her last LP – 2014’s ‘The Pinkprint’ – was written at a time when she felt "emotionally unstable" as her 11-year relationship with Safaree Samuels came to an end, but her fourth album will reflect the "happiness" she’s found in her relationship with her rapper boyfriend Meek Mill.

She explained: "I needed time to hear myself think again because where I left off with ‘The Pinkprint’ was a little bit emotionally unstable.

"I wanted to take a moment to just live my life, enjoy my life, have fun, go out. I think that’s very important before you start writing again. Now, I want my happiness to be reflected in the new stuff."

The 33-year-old star – who is keen to have children with Meek – is currently laying down lyrics for her next record and has teased that her fans will have a "spiritual experience" when they hear the new material.

She told the new issue of Nylon magazine: "It’s a spiritual experience for the people who are hearing the music, so I’m trying to be very careful of what mental space I’m in while I’m creating it."

As for when fans can expect the record it could be a little while yet as she’s focusing on her acting career and will be busy promoting her forthcoming film ‘Barbershop: The Next Cut’, which is released on April 19.

She said: "Musically, I feel very fulfilled, and now I can start tapping into my acting world, where it’s about passion and not about the money. It’s wanting to be what I set out to be when I was in high school: an actress."
