Nick Lachey is relieved he never had children with ex-wife Jessica Simpson.
The ‘What’s Left Of Me’ hitmaker, who split from the blonde beauty in 2005 after three years of marriage, is glad he waited to start a family with his pregnant wife, Vanessa Lachey, with whom he already has two-year-old son Camden.
Asked how happy he is that they never had a baby together, the 41-year-old singer said: "In our situation, that was probably the best thing that could have ever happened that we didn’t have kids.
"And look, you’re always going to love your kids no matter how you feel about their other parent, but all things being equal, it was the best thing probably for both of us that we went on with our lives."
While Nick and Vanessa are preparing to welcome a baby girl next month, Jessica has daughter Maxwell, two, and 15-month-old son Axel with her second husband, Eric Johnson.
He added: "She’s obviously happily married with two and I’m happily married and about to have two so it all worked out the way it was kind of meant to work out."
The former ‘Newlyweds’ stars haven’t been in contact since their divorce, but Nick doesn’t "hiss" at the TV when he sees ads for Jessica’s clothing line.
He told Jenny McCarthy on her VH1 show: "She and I don’t necessarily stay in each others lives. I wouldn’t say it’s friends and I wouldn’t say it’s enemies – there is just no contact. We both moved on with our lives…it’s not animosity, it’s not friendship, it’s just kind of nothing.
"I don’t rush right down to Macy’s and buy a bunch of clothes or shoes, but I also don’t hiss at the TV — it’s somewhere in the middle."
