Nick Heyward rejected a collaboration with Sir Paul McCartney

Nick Heyward rejected a collaboration with Sir Paul McCartney.

The former Haircut 100 vocalist turned down the opportunity of working with the former ‘The Beatles’ singer, because he was "flabbergasted" by the offer – although he vows that a partnership with the Liverpudlian legend will happen before he dies.

Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz, the 54-year-old star said: "I remember him saying to me ‘Hey Nick, will you come and write some poetry with me?’ I was so flabbergasted I didn’t take him up on it because I wasn’t confident enough to say ‘Yes’. I just stood and [thought] ‘Did he just say that?’

"I didn’t turn him down, I was kind of stuck in a star for months thinking I haven’t got the confidence to take him up on that.

"I kept saying to myself he was just being polite.

"I know it will happen – one day! Before I die he will pop on stage."

The singer songwriter let his confidence get the better of him once again and snubbed the chance to join Johnny and Bernard Sumner in the alternative dance super group ‘Electronic’ – although he strongly regrets that fateful decision.

He revealed: "I also got asked by Johnny Marr to join ‘Electronic’, that was another thing where again lack of confidence; I convinced myself he didn’t really need it. I would love to work with Johnny Marr because I was a massive Smiths fan, and he is still one of the greatest pop guitarists that has ever been."

Meanwhile, the ‘Whistle Down The Wind’ soloist has returned to the stage and begun the ’80’s Invasion Tour’, alongside ‘Big Country’, ‘Curiosity Killed The Cat’ and Midge Ure, which will draw to a close on March 20.
