Nick Frost for Doctor Who Christmas special

Nick Frost is to guest star in the ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas special.

The ‘Shaun of the Dead’ star is to join the titular Time Lord, played by Peter Capaldi, and his companion Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) for the one-off episode of the sci-fi series set to air this Christmas.

He said of his upcoming role: "I’m so thrilled to have been asked to guest in the ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas Special, I’m such a fan of the show. The read-through was very difficult for me; I wanted to keep stuffing my fingers into my ears and scream, ‘No spoilers!’

"Every day on set I’ve had to silence my internal fan-boy squeals!"

Lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat added: "Frost at Christmas – it just makes sense! I worked with Nick on the ‘Tintin’ movie many years ago and it was a real pleasure to lure him back to television for a ride on the Tardis."

Nick will be joined in the action-packed special by former ‘Coronation Street’ actress Natalie Gumede, Fresh Meat’s Faye Marsay, Misfits actor Nathan McMullen and Michael Troughton.

Michael will be following in the footsteps of his father Patrick Troughton, who played the second incarnation of the Doctor.

The ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas special – which was written by Moffat and directed by Paul Wilmshurst and will be shot in Cardiff – is to air on BBC One.
