Nicholas Lyndhurst joins Man of La Mancha musical

Nicholas Lyndhurst has signed up to star in a musical.
The 57-year-old actor has joined the cast of ‘Man Of La Mancha’, which opens at the London Coliseum on 26 April 2019, alongside West End star Cassidy Janson, Kelsey Grammer and Danielle De Niese.
The ‘Only Fools and Horses’ actor will play the Innkeeper and the governor, and he is due to sing solo number ‘Knight Of The Woeful Countenance’.
The 38-year-old star will share the role of Aldonza and Dulcinea with Danielle in the upcoming show, which is inspired by Miguel de Cervantes’ masterpiece Don Quixote and is set in a 16th century dungeon where the author and his servant await trial from the Spanish inquisition.
‘Man of La Mancha’ is a 1965 musical with a book by Dale Wasserman, lyrics written by Joe Darion and music by Mitch Leigh.
The production will be directed by Lonny Price, who previously helmed ‘Sunset Boulevard’, which starred Glenn Close.
The ‘Goodnight Sweetheart’ actor – who is most famous for appearing in sitcoms – has previously attempted to branch out into other areas and tried to write a comical TV show which could match ‘Only Fools and Horses’ – in which he played plonker Rodney Trotter – but he wasn’t able to come up with the witty one-liners.
He said: "I have tried writing, but it was the hardest thing I have ever tried to do. It was just me and a friend throwing some ideas around but it did not work."
