More than a quarter of women would go to gigs alone if they felt safer travelling home.
New research from ticketing marketplace viagogo has found 27% of females are put off seeing their favourite artists because they don’t want to go home alone late at night, and nearly half of women have found themselves in situations where they would have used a support line or other safety tool but didn’t.
The study found 35% worried about walking home from gigs, with women and LGBTQ+ individuals – at 41% and 37% percent – more disproportionately affected.
Other travel concerns include using public transport alone, waiting alone for a bus or train, having no phone signal and being alone in venue car parks.
In an attempt to combat concerns, Strut Safe – a support line offering reassurance and companionship to people travelling home alone – viagogo and Uber are partnering up to help fans feel safer when journeying to and from gigs.
The initiative aims to increase awareness of Strut Safe’s 0333 335 0026 number, and viagogo and Uber are also offering a £10 Uber discount from Friday 4th April 2025 during late-nights (8pm – 6am) to help fans feel more at ease when travelling solo.
