Noel Gallagher says the Britpop era was the end of rock music as a dominating part of pop culture.
The songwriter's former group Oasis were the biggest band to emerge from the rock sub genre than came from the UK in the 90s and although it was a very special time for music he knew it was the end era.
He said: "It was an anniversary of something recently and somebody showed me a list of the album chart back them and in one week, it was Oasis, The Verve The Manics, Pulp and Blur, were like at least five of the top ten, and had been for most of that year. And I felt, I remember saying at the time that that era was the end of something, that that would be the last time that something like that would happen. There just isn't that culture any more. I have a 15-year-old daughter who is like, 'Albums? They take too much time just give me the track man.'
"I guess it was the end of pop music as we knew it and then the internet came along and bingo."
Meanwhile, the 48-year-old musician added that he was inspired to write albums with B sides by the soul and rock groups of the '60s, such as The Kinks, The Rolling Stones and The Beach Boys.
He told Steve Lamaq on BBC Radio Six: "We were all derived from, maybe not so much The Manics, but we certainly were derived from those pop records and The Verve were the same and Blur probably."

HomeTown are managed by former 'The X Factor' judge Louis Walsh and are signed to RCA records.

Liam and his One Direction bandmates, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles and Niall Horan, are set to take a two-year break from the band after releasing five albums in four years and touring the world virtually non-stop.

Coldplay will take requests on their 'A Head Full of Dreams Tour' so fans can give them a reason to play "old songs".
While the band have agreed on most of the setlist which will include tracks from their latest album, they have revealed they will include a "request segment" so that fans can hear their favourite oldies from the group's illustrious career.
Frontman Chris Martin explained: "What we will do on this tour is almost like a request segment. We'd ask people to give us a reason why they want us to play that song so there is a purpose behind why we play it.
"I think we want to make it like a passport photobooth, so you go in and say, 'I am Derek, I would like you to play 'The Hardest Part' ... So for example, if we are going to play a song like 'Spies' off of 'Parachutes', it will be lovely to play it and say, 'This is for Helen from Bolton as this reminds her of her dad.' That is a bad example and not a real one."
Unlike some artists who grow tired of playing their old songs, Chris insists he and the rest of the group - Will Champion, Guy Berryman and Jonny Buckland - get a lot of fulfilment out of performing their hits.
The 38-year-old singer said: "We're enjoying playing really old songs. This tour will finally have a setlist where we feel good about it from start to finish."
The band will play four dates from June 15-19 at London's Wembley Stadium next summer as part of the UK leg of the tour, which is the band's first in three years and follows the release of their new album, 'A Head Full of Dreams'.
But first they are preparing for their half-time Super
Bowl 50 show on February 7.
Speaking about their slot at the showpiece NFL game, Chris told The Sun newspaper: "It's a huge show so there's a lot of pressure and we've already started planning what we want to do."

Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst has been banned from the Ukraine for five years.
Reports from the Eastern European country state the 'Rollin'' singer has been prohibited from entering the country "in the interests of guaranteeing the security of our state".
The news comes after the 45-year-old American musician revealed a desire to move to the Crimea to make a Russian reality TV show and also said he'd like to be granted a Russian passport.
Speaking to Russia's state-run news agency Sputnik International in October, he said: "I wouldn't mind getting a Russian passport. If you have communication with the relevant authorities, which could assist with obtaining it ... share."
And despite the Prime Minister of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov describing the territory as "the new Beverly Hills" and calling on Western celebrities to obtain residency, it seems the invite does not extend to the controversial singer, as Interfax security services have confirmed Fred's ban to Billboard - but refused to give a statement on the matter.
The rocker's wife Kseniya Beryazina - who he married in 2012 and who is teaching him Russian - comes from the area that has been a Russian territory since 2014.

Adele's album '25' is the best-selling record in America since her previous record '21'.
The 'Hello' singer's comeback album sold 5.98 million in its first four weeks of sales, beating Taylor's Swift's '1989', which sold 5.7 million.
However, Adele has yet to beat her own record for '21', with an incredible 11.37 sales.
Meanwhile, Adele - who will embark on a tour in support of '25' next year - has admitted she is already thinking about her next album and wants it to feature a duet.
The 27-year-old singing superstar reportedly turned down the chance to collaborate with Beyoncé on her new record '25' but she has rubbished the claims stating that apart from her three-year-old son Angelo, Beyoncé is her "main priority".
Asked about claims that she declined Beyoncé's duet, she said: "Whoever started that must have been having a laugh because anyone who knows me knows that my main priority in life outside of my child is Beyoncé.
"I really wanted to do a duet on this album. I spoke to someone about it who I wanted to do it with, and we got on like a house on fire, and then we just couldn't logistically really get it to work. I can't say who it is because I want to do it in the future. That's the only reason. It wasn't Beyoncé!"

Madonna claims she was being "silenced" as a power cut delayed her Glasgow show.
The 'Like A Virgin' hitmaker tried to perform an encore during her Rebel Heart tour at the Scottish capital's SSE Hydro Arena but she was unable to play her last song as the power had already been disconnected.
Taking to Instagram, she wrote: "We don't stop till its over Glasgow! Don't try to silence the Queen."
However, a spokesperson for the venue insists it was the 57-year-old singer's team who shut the power off.
They said: "Madonna finished her agreed set and then chose to come on for another song.
"By that stage, all the power and control equipment had already been disconnected by her own production engineers. I would stress that this was not a venue decision."
This is not the first time Madonna has suffered technical problems during her most recent tour.
Whilst she initially blasted the fans as complaining "bitches" for booing when she finally got on stage in Manchester, she later took to Facebook to explain what had happened.
She wrote: "FACTS: its good to have them before you jump to conclusions! The entire video for my show crashed as I arrived for sound check. The back up file was corrupt. We had no choice but to reboot and pray for a good outcome. The video lights 75% of my show. We can't play in the dark. We were rebooted and ready by 9:30 even though we planned to go on earlier. I had to make cuts in show before show started. 'Dress You Up' was one of them and my third guitar song. This still brought us past the 11:00 curfew! (sic)"

Rihanna has teased a new video clip from her highly-anticipated album 'Anti'
The 'We Found Love' hitmaker is gearing up to release her eighth studio album and after posting a second video in the space of week, fans are speculating it may be released on Christmas Day (25.12.15).
Captioning the video, she writes: "Experience room 6 of the #ANTIdiaRy (sic)"
In the video, anticipation builds as the 27-year-old beauty walks towards the camera and past a number of backing dancers, before making her way towards a projection of herself.
However, fans hopeful of the album being released this week may be disappointed as collaborator Sia recently revealed Rihanna is still working on the LP.
She shared: "The other night she came over and listened to half of 25 songs I played her because she's still looking for songs for her new album.
"She was there to listen to songs and see if there was anything that she was into. It was a business meeting for sure. She took four [songs] but I don't know if they'll end up [on the album]. I'm pretty sure I have one on the new album but I don't know if I'll end up with more than that."
