David Bowie is set to release his first TV theme in 20 years for 'The Last Panthers'.
The 'Space Oddity' singer has recorded an original piece of music that's both "dark" and "beautiful", which will feature in the opening credits of the European crime thriller and was a collaboration between himself and acclaimed director Johan Renck - who has worked with Madonna, Beyoncé and Lana Del Rey in the past.
Renck has praised Bowie for making something that "embodied the series".
In a statement, Renck said: "I was looking for one of the icons of my youth to write the music for the title sequence, but was presented with a God. His first response was precise, engaged and curious.
"The piece of music he laid before us embodied every aspect of our characters and the series itself - dark, brooding, beautiful and sentimental (in the best possible incarnation of this word).
"All along, the man inspired and intrigued me and as the process passed, I was overwhelmed with his generosity. I still can't fathom what actually happened..."
Bowie's last TV theme was for BBC 2 series 'The Buddha of Suburbia' in 1993, which hit Number 35 in the UK singles chart.
'The Last Panthers' is a six-part series set in dark heart of Europe and follows a shadowy alliance of gangsters who have taken over and stars BAFTA winner Samantha Morton and Golden Globe winner John Hurt.
The series will be aired later this year.

Ryan Adams and Taylor Swift are up for collaborating on music together.
The 40-year-old singer/songwriter released his own version of the 'Shake It Off' hitmaker's '1989' LP on Monday (21.09.15) and now both stars have revealed they'd been in the studio together in the past and would be up for joining forces once more.
Speaking on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 Show, Taylor said: "We have written together before. We wrote together once and it was amazing. Like I know what his studio is like, I know what his vibe is like. I've seen him create music. It's very much on the sly, ad lib. You (Ryan) create music really quickly. You get this bolt of lightning and Ryan is just off making the song happen."
Asked if they would be up for working together the blonde beauty said she is "open to anything collaborative" with Ryan and the feeling is "mutual".
She responded: "We haven't talked about it but I am open to anything honestly. I've been such a huge fan of Ryan and what he stands for and he has been like my own markers on my life with his songs. So I am open to anything collaborative."
Ryan added: "It's mutual. She's amazing."
The 'Blank Space' singer also found listening to Ryan's re-imagining of her LP "magical" because she could imagine how he recorded it, having been to his studio PAX-AM in Los Angeles.
Taylor added: "And so that's one thing that really made it special to listen to this album because I can kind of visualise how he probably recorded it. And I've been in those rooms before and it just made it even more magical."

Roger Waters doesn't like Pink Floyd's last album 'The Endless River'.
The band's ex-bass player and founder has listened to his former group's 2014 LP but he didn't enjoy the music David Gilmour and Nick Mason recorded.
Asked for if he likes 'The Endless River', he said: "No, but that's - that's so what. There's an awful lot of records that I hear that I don't like."
Although the 72-year-old musician hasn't been in the prog rock band for over 30 years, he thinks guitarist Gilmour made the "right decision" not to make any new Pink Floyd music following the last album's release.
He told Rolling Stone magazine: "I think that he's making the right decision (laughs). I mean, it's nothing to do with me; they do what they want. Yeah, except I guess the legacy's got something to do with me. It's none of my business. Anything they do, after I left, has absolutely nothing to do with me. It's none of my business."
Gilmour has just released his fourth solo album 'Rattle That Lock', while Mason has expressed interest in working with Waters again on new songs.

Adele is in talks for an hour-long TV special to launch her new album.
The 'Skyfall' hitmaker's eagerly awaited third LP is due out in November and rather than carry out endless interviews to promote her return to music, Adele wants a show dedicated to her.
According to The Sun newspaper, the 27-year-old superstar has already had preliminary discussions with the BBC about making a programme to air at the same time her album is released.
A source said: "Adele is simply too big just to be part of a green room of guests on a chat show. She deserves her own dedicated programme where the spotlight will only be on her. It's not like she desperately needs the publicity but you can't turn your nose up at that level of exposure."
The BBC has a long history of creating special programming with artists.
Way back in 1997 Oasis made the documentary 'Right Here, Right Now' about the recording and release of their third album 'Be Here Now', while more recently in 2013 the corporation dedicated a host of programming to Take That star Gary Barlow ahead of the release of his solo album 'Since I Saw You Last'.
The Grammy-awarding-winning artist took a break from the music business following the birth of her son Angelo - her child with long-term partner Simon Konecki - was born on 19 October 2012.
Her last album, 2011 release '21', has sold over 30 million albums worldwide.

Destiny's Child are reportedly making a comeback.
The 'Survivor' hitmakers are working on new "projects" according to their manager Mathew Knowles - the father of lead singer Beyoncé - and he is "hopeful" they will make a new LP and head out on tour again.
He told The Huffington Post: "I am extremely hopeful that the ladies will come back with an album and a tour. I'm working on a few Destiny's Child projects right now."
The definitive line-up of the R&B group was comprised of Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams and Beyoncé.
The trio announced their split in 2005 following the release of their 'Destiny Fulfilled' studio album and '#1's' compilation and the conclusion of their 'Destiny Fulfilled... and Lovin' It Tour', but did sign off with a farewell show at the NBA All-Star Game in February 2006.
They have performed together a couple of times since, most notably when Beyoncé performed the Super Bowl XLVII halftime show in February 2013.
Matthew has confirmed one project he is working on with the girl group, their official biography, while he is also in talks about a movie about their career.
He revealed: "My second book will be the autobiography of Destiny's Child. I'm talking to the film and TV community right now, regarding a Destiny's Child movie or TV series of some sort. But I still manage the ladies - Destiny's Child - and I'm hopeful that within the next two to three years we'll see something major come from it."

Katie Price is making a music comeback with Kavana.
The 37-year-old star is returning to the studio and working on a collaboration with the 'I Can Make You Feel Good' hitmaker who believes he can make her "sound good".
Kavana said: "We've decided to do a duet. I mean, God bless her, she can't really sing, can she? But I've said to her that I'll get her in the studio and make it sound good.
Katie, 37, enjoyed hits with her ex-husband Peter Andre including a cover of Disney's classic 'A Whole New World' in 2006.
She also auditioned to be the UK's 'Eurovision Song Contest' entry in 2005 with 'Not Just Anybody' but lost out to R 'n' B singer Javine.
Katie's last music offering was 2010 track 'Free To Love Again' which suffered from poor sales and was criticised for relying heavily on autotune.
However nineties success story Kavana - who joined supergroup 5th Story last year - is adamant he can make it work with Katie.
He told The Sun newspaper: "It's going to be a Nineties dance track with a Nineties vibe. Trust me, it's going to be a great song.
"We're writing it together. She loves to sing."

Will Young is proud of Sam Smith.
The former 'Pop Idol' winner loves to see other gay singers achieve success in their career and was thrilled to hear that Sam had been chosen to write and record the theme tune for upcoming James Bond movie 'Spectre'.
Will, who released his sixth album '85% Proof' in May and has a new single 'Thank You' out on Friday (25.09.15), said: "Isn't that amazing? That's amazing. I love great singers. If someone's doing really well, like Sam, and they're really good I love it, I love their success and I love the fact that they're doing great.
"It's so nice to see someone who is a brilliant singer, and he's doing great, and he's gay, so it's like double brilliant!"
Sam has written and recorded 'Writing's On The Wall' for the 24th Bond movie in the franchise.
Will admitted that he does get jealous over some artists' success but not when he thinks it is deserved, as in Sam's case.
He added: "Because everyone has jealousy, like 'ooh God,' that really doesn't come into play. The only time I get frustrated is when people are perceived to be doing really well and I just think they're c**p, and I can't mention who they are but I wish I could.
"And I love Olly [Alexander] from Years & Years. I think they've come in from an interesting place, it is pop, it's melancholy electric pop, kind of like what I did on my last record. Again I should be really jealous but I can't be because it's really good! There are loads of good people and the ones that aren't really good, you know hey, I have to keep my mouth shut."

Drake and Future have released a joint mixtape.
The rappers have collaborated on 'What A Time To Be Alive' with Drake revealing it was originally only supposed to be a few songs which ended up becoming a brand new record.
Speaking on his OVO Sound Radio show on Apple's Beats 1, Drake explained: "It's a little soundtrack for the people who need it right now.
"I went to Atlanta for six days a couple weeks ago with the hopes of doing some songs with Future, and when you get around Future, it's like a vortex, that guy can outwork anybody right now. It's tough to see someone do four, five songs in one night and not try to match it."
The surprise album is currently available as an Apple Music exclusive for one week.
And it's not the first time the pair have worked together.
They collaborated on Future's 'Tony Montana', 'Never Satisfied' and 'Where Ya At?'.
The rappers also both appeared on Lil Wayne's 'Love Me' and DJ Drama's 'We in This Bitch 1.5'.

Christina Aguilera's manager says she hasn't peaked yet, unlike Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez.
When asked if 'The Voice' coach would consider a Las Vegas residency like the other popstars, Irving Azoff said that it was only for stars who are no longer in their prime.
Speaking on Pauly Shore's podcast, he said: "No disrespect to Britney, or to Jennifer Lopez, who's doing [a residency], and Shania [Twain], who did one, but Christina's not peaked yet. She's in the prime of the career.
"[Christina's] about to go back on 'The Voice', about to finish a record, about to do another guest shot on 'Nashville', and the record's amazing.
"She's never happier and never done better."
While Britney recently extended her Las Vegas residency at Planet Hollywood for a further two years, Jennifer will kick off hers at the venue in 2016.
She said: "People keep asking me what the show is going to be like and what I'm going to do. We're still figuring that out. But I do know one thing, I want to share something with you right now.
"I know no matter what the show is, what I'm going to do, every single night, whoever comes, I will be giving you all I have. It's going to be a fantastic show and I can't wait to see all of you there."
