Robert Carlyle can relate to Trainspotting’s Begbie

Robert Carlyle can easily relate to his 'Trainspotting' character.
The award-winning actor starred as Begbie, a sociopathic character that featured in the Danny Boyle-directed movie, and has revealed he was a fusion of various people he knew earlier in his life.
Robert said: "I grew up with a lot of people like Begbie. He's a mixture of three or four people I've known - all in jail.
"One guy used to dress deliberately provocatively so that people would stare at him and then he'd have a go at them; he lived for it."
Robert starred alongside the likes of Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner and Jonny Lee Miller in the 1996 movie, and revealed he made a conscious decision to provoke his co-stars throughout filming.
He explained to Independent on Sunday newspaper: "It was important for me to keep the other boys [on the 'Trainspotting' set] on edge a bit, so I had a rougher edge to my personality throughout filming: I'd call them all the names under the sun to wind them up before a scene - then the actor doesn't have to act!"

Paul Rudd: I tried to flash Michael Douglas

Paul Rudd tried to flash Michael Douglas in a 'Basic Instinct'-inspired move on the set of 'Ant Man'.
The 46-year-old actor thought it would be hilarious to pull the stunt - which references the nudity scene from the film starring the 70-year-old actor and Sharon Stone - because he finally felt "relaxed" around the megastar.
He said: "It took me a while to be myself around him, but on the last day we were shooting a scene where he's interrogating me across a table, and it suddenly hit me: 'I could, 'Basic Instinct' him!' So, I'm sitting there, trying to figure out how I can get my 'kit' out without anyone noticing..."
However, Paul recalled that his plan didn't go as well as he imagined it.
He told Shortlist magazine: "So, before we start, I unzip my pants, get it out, and pull my T-shirt down to cover it. I'm all ready to do my exaggerated leg cross reveal, but my 'kit' gets caught in the elastic of my underwear. It's all... smushed.
"So, I'm sitting there, one hand pulling my T-shirt down, and the other trying to adjust myself, and I suddenly realise it looks like I'm... masturbating (he laughs).
"Like, I'm trying to rub one out while Michael Douglas is giving a soliloquy. Eventually, he just stopped and said, "What are you, a f**king pervert?"

Robert Carlyle: Trainspotting 2 is closer than ever

Robert Carlyle says 'Trainspotting 2' is "closer than it's ever been".
The 54-year-old actor starred in Danny Boyle's adaptation of the Irvine Welsh cult novel two decades ago - alongside fellow Scott Ewan McGregor, 44, and Jonny Lee Miller, 42 - about a heroine addict and his friends and revealed that after much speculation, the cast are now all on board with the project.
He said: "(it is) difficult getting all our ships aligned at the same time. What I would say is that it's closer than it's ever been.
"Danny always said he wants us all to be 20 years older because the book ('Trainspotting' sequel 'Porno') is set 20 years later.
"One of the difficulties of just adapting 'Porno' is that so much of it is to do with internet porn, which has moved on a lot since the book was written - or so I understand - so it would require a hefty rewrite."
And the star believes that his character Begbie would be "in jail or dead" if it wasn't for the sequel plot.
He told Shortlist magazine: "That's interesting ... Where are any of us? If this film gets made all the actors are going to be middle-aged - or in my case, at 54, more than middle-aged - as will the audience."

Diane Keaton: Woody Allen is a miracle

Diane Keaton has hailed Woody Allen a "miracle".
The 69-year-old actress and the famous director, 79, starred together in the 1977 hit movie 'Annie Hall' - about a comedian (Woody) and out-of-work singer (Diane) who fall in and out of love - nearly three decades ago and Diane was stunned to hear that her former lover and friend was working on yet another star-studded film.
She said: "It's not possible!
"He's really astonishing. He's one of the most astonishing people in showbusiness, ever. He's had more power over his movies than anyone for a longer amount of time than anyone. He's a miracle."
Woody has won four Oscars and nine BAFTAs in his career spanning 50 years and is yet to slow down - having drafted Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone for his latest movie release 'Irrational Man' and Bruce Willis, Blake Lively and Kristen Stewart for his new, currently untitled, picture that starts filming in August.
Diane told The Independent newspaper: "I used to say to him that he was the cockroach you couldn't kill! This guy is stronger than you think. Most people look at him and think, 'Oh, he's Woody Allen, he's shy.' He's a rock!"

John Lasseter: Pixar will stay great

Pixar boss John Lasseter says he will "never settle" until a movie is great.
The chief animator and creative director at Disney and Pixar has been credited for making their latest offering 'Inside Out' a multi-million dollar success and says that the future of the blockbuster-factory is long.
He said: "As a leader, I will never settle. We will just keep pushing until it is great because there are no excuses.
"You are not going to be able to travel around the world and give caveats as to why it is a success because it is not working. You have every chance to make it right so we are going to do that."
But the creator of 'Toy Story' and 'Cars' doesn't think their success is a flash in the pan or just a part of the golden age of animation.
He told The Times newspaper: "I never liked that term because it means there is an end to it. We want Pixar and Disney animation to keep its success going beyond the founders.
"And it has never happened in entertainment history, any band or anything, but we believed we can do this because it is about the people but it is also about our culture and the way we work."

Robert Carlyle: I only get offers to play psychos

Robert Carlyle keeps "getting offered psychos".
The 54-year-old actor - who's starred in 'Trainspotting', '28 Weeks Later' and 'The Full Monty' - has said that while he'd like the opportunity to appear in more comedies roles, such offers are rarely put to him.
He said: "I've always loved comedy.
"It's something I've not done an awful lot of, because I keep getting offered psychos. I'm not knocking the psychos - they pay the rent - but the biggest successes I had were comedic, if you think about it.
"'The Full Monty' is a comedy, and 'Trainspotting' - well, 'Trainspotting' is not exactly a comedy, but the part is."
The Danny Boyle-directed 'Trainspotting' marked Robert's entrance into the world of showbiz in the mid-1990s, when he befriended the likes of Noel and Liam Gallagher, but he looks back on that period of his life with mixed feelings.
He told the Guardian newspaper: "It was a false dawn, Cool Britannia or whatever it was. I hate even to say the words. I was fortunate to be in the centre of it, people like the Gallaghers and Damon Albarn were my friends.
"It was a fantastic time in my life, and I'm glad I went through it. But you wake up and think: what happened? Did it mean anything at all?"

Richard Armitage and Carrie-Anne Moss for Brain On Fire

Richard Armitage and Carrie-Anne Moss will star alongside Chloë Grace Moretz in 'Brain On Fire'
The 'The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies' star and 'The Matrix' actress are the latest cast members to be announced for the Charlize Theron-produced real-life drama, which is scheduled for release in 2016.
The film is an adaptation of New York Post journalist Susannah Cahalan's critically-acclaimed memoir, 'Brain On Fire: My Month Of Madness', and follows her own experiences of being diagnosed with an unknown illness, which led people to believe she was psychotic and a danger, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
It has been revealed that Richard will play the father of Susannah, Tom Cahalan, while Carrie-Anne will play the role of the mother, Rhona Nack.
Meanwhile, Chloe - one of Hollywood rising stars - will play the movie's central character who begins to hear voices and experience seizures, which eventually leads to insanity.
As for the production, 'Glassland' filmmaker Gerard Barrett will be directing from Vancouver, and 'Mad Max: Fury Road's' Charlize will be taking on producing duties through her own production company Denver & Delilah.

Grant Morrison blasts Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman

Comic book writer Grant Morrison thinks Zack Snyder's version of Wonder Woman betrays the character's roots.
Grant, 55, is currently writing his graphic novel 'Wonder Woman: Earth One' and said he didn't want to do the "warrior woman thing" with the character, like the Snyder-directed 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' movie appears set to do.
He told Nerdist: "I can understand why they're doing it, I get all that, but that's not what [Wonder Woman creator] William Marston wanted, that's not what he wanted at all! ...
"You see the latest shots of Gal Gadot in the costume, and it's all sword and shield and her snarling at the camera. Marston's Diana was a doctor, a healer, a scientist.
"So I went back to those roots and just built it up again."
Meanwhile, Gal recently rubbished claims she's not suited to the role of Wonder Woman because she doesn't have a large enough bust to play the superhero.
However, Gal insisted she's not majorly fussed by the criticism, saying she's learned to laugh it off.
She said: "Well, they said that I was too skinny and my boobs were too small. I'm really lucky nothing in my life was instantaneous.
"When I was younger I would take criticism really hard. But now it mostly amuses me. The true Amazons had one boob so it wouldn't bother them in their archery. So it's not going to be like I'm a real Amazon. We always try to make everyone happy but we can't."

Michael Cera for Lego Batman

Michael Cera will voice Robin in 'Lego Batman'. The 'Juno' star has signed on to appear as Batman's partner-in-crime in the animated film, which is Warner Bros.' spin-off of 2014's critical and commercial smash, 'The Lego Movie'. The 27-year-old acto...
