Britain’s Eurovision Song Contest entry Molly Smitten-Downes came in 17th place on Saturday night (10.05.14).
The previously unknown 27-year-old singer performed her self-penned song ‘Children Of The Universe’ dressed in a stunning dress and received 40 points from voters in 26 countries.
British voters gave their highest score of 12 points to Austria’s entry, drag queen Conchita Wurst, who went on to win the competition.
She is known as the country’s "bearded lady" and sang ‘Rise Like A Phoenix’, claiming: "We are unstoppable", as she collected her award on stage.
Although Mollie missed out on the top spot, she had plenty of support on Twitter with followers describing her performance as the "best song of the night".
One fan wrote: "Downloaded the song straight away. It’s fair to say you’ve done the UK proud! stunning voice. Be proud of yourself. (sic)"
Ahead of her performance, Molly thanked fans on Facebook, writing: "Just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of you. I am amazed everyday by your kindness, support and encouragement. I am so so grateful to be heading onto that stage singing a song I believe in so much.
"I’m gonna sing it like I mean it, because I do, every word. I hope you feel it wherever you are! Now enjoy the party! HERE WE GO!! (sic)"
The Netherlands came in second place in the Eurovision Song Contest, while Armenia came in third in the competition.
