Mikey North refuses to sign up to social media

Mikey North has sworn off social media to "protect" his mental health.
The 33-year-old soapstar – who plays Gary Windass on ‘Coronation Street’ – has decided to steer away from social media after watching his co-stars get trolled.
Speaking on ‘Lorraine’ during Tuesday’s (28.01.20) episode, Mikey explained: "I made a choice years ago to never really get involved with social media to protect my mental health. I see it cause so many problems for people.
"I think there’s so many upsides to it, and I’m all for people using it but I can see the negatives, especially when you’re in the public eye. I’m sure things will evolve over the next 10-15 years but for now, I’ll keep my phone in my pocket."
And the father-of-two – who has four-month-old daughter Eliza and two-year-old son Archie with wife Rachael – wouldn’t want to put his kids online after his former co-star Kym Marsh, who left the cobbles in December, was left "in tears" when a troll left her a nasty comment about her late son.
The 43-year-old star – who played Michelle Connor – called out a troll who hit out at her and her son Archie, who tragically died minutes after he was born 18 weeks premature in 2009.
Kym shared the comment, which read: "Stop acting like your nice and kind and sweet and a sweetie kym your nothing to ‘corrie’ and me go to heaven like your s**t of a son @marsh_kym (sic)"
Meanwhile, Mikey is planning to stick around the cobbles for as long as possible.
After playing bad boy Gary for over a decade, the star is refusing to leave the ITV show, and revealed a big plot for his character in the next few months.
He explained: "My mortgage helps me stay on the show and I refuse to leave. I’m there for another year at least."
His storyline will see Gary return to the woods where he had a showdown with loan shark Rick Neelan in June and killed him in self defence.
"We’ve got lots more planned, we’ve got a big Spring…It’s the ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ week where we go on at 9pm. We’re gonna revisit the woods where Rick’s body is buried and that’s gonna come back to haunt Gary, that’s coming up in the Spring."
