Mikey North has ‘man crush’ on Sam Robertson

Mikey North has a "man crush" on Sam Robertson.
The 32-year-old actor – who plays ‘Coronation Street’ killer Gary Windass – loves sharing the screen with the Scottish actor (Adam Barlow) and he thinks their friendship really helps when it comes to portraying their rivalry.
He said: "Yeah, I’ve got a man crush on Sam! He’s a good lad, and we’ve started knocking about together outside of work – he’s a really nice guy, really down to earth.
"Some people say you shouldn’t get on if you play enemies on screen but I disagree.
"Being friends with someone means you trust them when you’re acting out a scene and that’s a big help to me."
Mikey is sad he no longer shares scenes with Tina O’Brien after Gary and her character Sarah Platt split up because he thinks she made him a better actor.
He told Inside Soap magazine: "I’ve been so lucky in the past couple of years to work with some talented people, which dies make your job easier. I miss working with Tina now that she and Gary aren’t together. She’s brought me on so much as an actor. She’s incredibly talented, so it’s been a privilege."
Despite being at the heart of some gripping action on the cobbles, the actor doesn’t really watch his scenes because he can be too critical.
He explained: "I’ve come to a point now where I’ve spent years doing it, and you can end up criticising yourself. So I’ve started trusting the opinions of people around me, and if it feels right on the day, that’s what matters."
Meanwhile, Mikey is very relieved that it’s his co-star Sam Aston, who plays Chesney Brown, was handed a storyline about becoming a father to quads, rather than himself – joking he’d have quit the soap if he’d been given the plot.
He laughed: "It’s going to be fun seeing Sam Aston [Chesney] trying to cope with all those babies on set. I’d be resigning if it was me!"
