Midge Ure tips David Bowie song for John Lewis Christmas advert

Midge Ure is hoping a David Bowie cover will be used for the John Lewis Christmas advert.
The 63-year-old singer, who met Bowie on several occasions, is hoping the rumours are true that one of the late music legend’s songs will provide the soundtrack for the department store’s 2016 festive campaign.
The ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’ hitmaker would love to see ‘Starman’, ‘Space Oddity’ or Bowie’s version of ‘The Little Drummer Boy’, which he did with Bing Crosby, used.
Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz at the Stubhub Q Awards at London’s Roundhouse on Wednesday (02.11.16), he said: "The only one I know that he did that was remotely Christmassy was when Bowie appeared on TV with Bing Crosby many years ago and they did a duet of ‘The Little Drummer Boy’.
"It is just a spectacular Christmas song so I’d like to think it would be that. I think any of Bowie’s songs would be great Christmas songs. I think ‘Starman’ would be great and I think ‘Space Oddity’ would be fantastic. I will keep my fingers crossed that it happens."
Campaign reports that the advert will air on November 10 and Dougal Wilson, who has directed the promo clip three times before, is being tipped to direct the festive short.
Last year rising Norwegian star Aurora covered Oasis’ ‘Half the World Away’ much to the dismay of the band’s former guitarist Noel Gallagher.
However, he was happy that he’d get a huge pay cheque from royalties from the cover of the song, which was first released as a B-side to ‘Whatever’ in December 1994 and peaked at number three in the UK charts.
Introducing the song at a concert last year, he said: "Now I’m going to sing you a song that will forever be synonymous with Christmas from now on and, as is well known, it’s not my favourite time of year. Having said that, at least it comes with a cheque, which, believe me, is highly worthwhile."
