Michael Le Vell’s rehab paid by Coronation Street bosses

Michael Le Vell’s rehab is being paid for by ‘Coronation Street’ bosses.

The troubled actor, who plays car mechanic Kevin Webster, has been temporarily written out of the ITV soap following his admission to having snorted cocaine, but bosses are said to have revealed that they want him back once he’s overcome his substance abuse issues and are reportedly paying for his £2,000-a-week rehab despite him still receiving wages of £9,000-a-month.

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "ITV recognises that Michael needs help and are doing all they can for him.

"He is picking up his basic salary, just as he did during his legal fight last year, and they have also agreed to pay his fees at the clinic. They are very keen for him to get fit and well, and back to the show."

The 49-year-old star admitted that he first took cocaine "in a moment of weakness" a week before his child-abuse trial last year, for which he has been cleared of all charges, and although he was opposed to receiving treatment at first, he agreed when bosses suggested it last month.

Michael returned to the soap last month and will feature until the end of April but will then be absent from the famous cobbles until bosses are satisfied that he is well enough to be written back into the storylines.

Fellow ‘Coronation Street’ stars Craig Charles (Lloyd Mullaney) and Jimmi Harkishin (Dev Alahan) have both returned to the soap following successful drug rehab treatment in the past.
