Michael Le Vell’s Corrie son to battle sepsis

Michael Le Vell is set to be involved in an "emotional" ‘Coronation Street’ storyline when his on-screen son is diagnosed with sepsis.
Kevin Webster’s boy Jack Webster (Kyran Bowes) will be struck down with the life-threatening condition – which is also known as blood poisoning – because of a cut on his knee, and the mechanic may have to decide to allow doctors to amputate his son to save his life.
A show source said: "’Corrie’ trainee doctor Ali Neeson sees Jack and calls an ambulance as he is concerned about sepsis. It turns out Jack contracted sepsis through a cut on his knee.
"His life hangs in the balance and Kevin is faced with the prospect of amputation for his son to keep him alive. It’s an emotional storyline for Michael Le Vell and Kyran Bowes, who plays Jack."
‘Corrie’ have teamed up with the UK Sepsis Trust to raise awareness of the condition, and charity boss Dr. Ron Daniels is delighted the ITV soap are covering the storyline.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Stories like Jack’s remind us of the devastating cost of sepsis. The condition affects 250,000 people every year in the UK and claims 44,000 lives – more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer, and road accidents combined.
"It’s incredible ‘Coronation Street’ is raising the profile of a condition which affects so many people yet until now has been poorly recognised."
This comes after Jack was thrown into drama last week when he came face-to-face with evil serial killer Pat Phelan (Connor McIntyre) when the murderer was tied up in the builder’s yard.
Phelan convinced Jack to help untie him before wreaking havoc in Weatherfield, but Anna Windass (Debbie Rush) stabbed him to death to end his reign of terror once and for all.
