Michael Bay is in negotiations to direct ’13 Hours’.
The filmmaker is wanted to bring the story of an attack on an American diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, in September 2012 to life on the big screen, according to reports.
The script has been penned by Chuck Hogan using Mitchell Zuckoff’s book ’13 Hours: The Inside Account of What Really Happened In Benghazi’ as the basis.
Zuckoff wrote the book with several security team members who were involved in the attack by Islamic militants, which resulted in the murders of US Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and US Foreign Service Information Management Officer Sean Smith. A second assault took place at a different compound approximately one mile away resulting in the deaths of two CIA contractors, Tyrone S. Woods and Glen Doherty.
The film will focus on six members of a security team who fought to defend the compound and Ambassador Stevens and Smith.
If Bay – whose previous films include ‘Pearl Habour’ and the ‘Transformers’ series – signs on for the project, shooting is due to start
next year.
The 49-year-old director-and-producer recently admitted he wanted to move away from the big budget blockbusters he is famous for, saying: "There’s kind of a new chapter, a new direction in movies I want to make. I have a lot of stories to tell. And it’s about flexing new muscles."
