Mia Goth: Shooting for ‘A Cure for Wellness’ was very intense

Mia Goth found shooting for ‘A Cure for Wellness’ was "very, very intense".
The 23-year-old actress – who plays Hannah, a patient who goes missing, in the psychological thriller – spent a lot of time in Germany’s "most haunted place", where conditions were very cold and wet.
He said: "We shot in a place called Beelitz, which used to be a hospital in World War I and World War II, and the Soviets used to send their dissidents there and it’s known as the most haunted place in Germany and we would shoot there for nights at a time and there was a lot of water work of being just wet and cold and intense, very very intense."
Director Gore Verbinski insisted on taking his time to make the movie because he didn’t want it to look "fast and cheap" like so many modern horrors do.
Mia told Collider: "We shot this film for five months, and it wasn’t because of the visual effects, it was because he wanted to make a good quality scary movie, not many movies are made like that any more.
"A lot of films are made fast and cheap, but we really took our time to make a good quality film and I really think you see that.
"Gore has the whole film story boarded before we even get to set so he knows exactly what he wants and won’t compromise on that, you feel very safe around him."
Mia was drawn to the movie – which also stars Celia Imrie and Dane DeHaan – because she liked the idea it would ask the audience some "uncomfortable questions" about their lives.
She explained: "He said it’s meant to be a thought provoking film, from the title on, everything is supposed to be making a conversation, where he’s trying to have a conversation in the cinema and hasn’t really had one. It’s asking you some really uncomfortable questions at times, like blunt questions, ‘Are you happy?’ ‘Are you content with your life?’ And he just wanted to make a really freaky film and I think he succeeded."
