Metallica break O2 arena record

Metallica have broken the attendance record at The O2 arena in London.
The ‘Nothing Else Matters’ rockers performed to 22,211 fans at the venue in the UK capital on Tuesday night (24.10.17), beating the previous record set by Muse’s 21,000-strong crowd in 2016.
Taking the ‘Time Is Running Out’ group’s 360-degree stage design to another level, Metallica – made up of Robert Trujillo, Lars Ulrich, James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett – used the ‘in-the-round’ staging for their ‘WorldWired’ Tour.
The band performed from the middle of the area, and expanded the seating capacity which allowed them to set the new record.
Fans were immersed in the show through the stage design, and inventive 360 degree screens.
Head of programming Christian D’Acuna presented the ‘Sad But True’ heavy metal legends with an illustration specially commissioned to mark their achievement.
The artwork took its inspiration from the band’s own creative direction, and the iconic design of the London venue.
Christian said: "Metallica smashed the highest attendance record during both of their shows at The O2. It was an honour to host the heavy metal rock gods at the venue and they did not disappoint, delivering an incredible show in the round, full of hits spanning their whole career.
"It’s been a great year for rock bands at The O2, with the likes of Green Day and Foo Fighters gracing our stage and Queens Of The Stone Age and Deep Purple still to come; we hope the epic shows continue with our new 6k capacity standing floor."
