Melvin Odoom’s ‘sad’ Strictly axe

Melvin Odoom was "really sad" after being axed from ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ but insists he’s not angry with BBC bosses.
The radio DJ and his professional partner Janette Manrara were the first pair eliminated for the latest series over the weekend but their exit caused controversy as they didn’t face a dance-off, for the first time in the show’s history, because Anastacia – who is partnered by Brendan Cole – was injured.
But the pair insist there is no bad blood between them and the programme’s producers.
Speaking on ‘Strictly’ spin-off show ‘It Takes Two’ on Monday night (03.10.16), Janette said: "It’s no one’s fault.
"We love Anastacia and we love Brendan and we wish her the best for a speedy recovery."
Melvin was "really sad" after getting the ‘Strictly’ boot and admitted he and the brunette star were keen to show what they could do in a dance-off.
When asked how he feels now, he said: "Better. It was a really sad day over the weekend.
"It’s really sad to be in this position right now … we wanted to go out there and dance like it was our last dance on earth.
"Everyone has been amazing."
Anastacia was unable to perform in a dance-off after tearing her mastectomy scar so co-host Claudia Winkleman announced that Melvin would be going home after receiving the fewest public votes.
He said afterwards: "I just need to say, every single person on this show; the contestants, the dancers, the production, the judges, everyone is absolutely amazing.
"It’s a blessing to be on the show and thank you for Janette, it’s been a great experience for me, so thank you.
"It was unexpected but I care about the people before everything else. I love Anastacia, I think she’s a great woman, she’s a great role model and her health comes first before everything else.
"As much as this is a great show and competition, her health comes first. It’s the way it is."
