Melanie Sykes to present The Great Pottery Throw Down

Melanie Sykes is set to host ‘The Great Pottery Throw Down’ when it moves to Channel 4.
The pottery making competition was originally hosted by Sara Cox and broadcast on BBC2, but after production company Love Productions – who also produce ‘The Great British Bake Off’ – struck up a new deal with rival broadcaster Channel 4, it has been confirmed Melanie will take over hosting duties.
Speaking in a statement, the 49-year-old presenter said: "I am so pleased to have been asked to present ‘The Great Pottery Throw Down’. I am a huge fan of art in all its forms and love being around creative people. It’s such a feel good, inspiring show and it is an honour and a thrill to be working on it."
The programme sees 12 contestants compete over 10 weeks in a range of pottery themed challenges, where they must impress returning judge and master potter Keith Brymer Jones and new judge and award-winning ceramicist Sue Pryke with their imaginative ceramic creations.
Sue said in another statement: "I was thrilled to be asked to be a judge for ‘The Great Pottery Throw Down’. It’s such brilliant programme for championing pottery and I’m delighted to be joining the team. I love ceramics and the show has been really influential in getting people switched on and interested in pottery. It’s an exciting show to watch and I can’t wait to find out who Britain’s best home potter is going to be!"
‘The Great Pottery Throw Down’ was aired for two series on BBC2, but was axed in 2018, a year after Love Productions moved their flagship show ‘The Great British Bake Off’ to Channel 4 in 2017.
Love Productions still produce ‘The Great British Sewing Bee’ – which is in the same format as both their other shows – for BBC Two.
