Mel Giedroyc set to host Good With Wood on Channel 4

Mel Giedroyc is set to host a new competition series on Channel 4.

The 52-year-old TV presenter has been announced as the new host of ‘Good With Wood’, a six-part series that will put the UK’s most talented woodworkers to the test.

Looking forward to the new show, Mel – who previously hosted ‘The Great British Bake Off’ – joked: "In the words of Ian Faith, the manager of Spinal Tap, ‘… in the topsy-turvy world of heavy rock, having a good solid piece of wood in your hand is often useful.’

"I would add to that by saying that in the topsy-turvy world of 2020 in general, having a good solid piece of wood in your hand is pretty much essential.

"So, if you go down to the woods today, you’re in for a big surprise. ‘Good With Wood’ is going to be something we can all lean on. I can’t wait to make like Edward Woodward and get WOODSWARD."

The new series will see some of the country’s most talented woodworkers challenged to create beautiful and ambitious builds to exacting briefs.

The show will be staged in a stunning woodland setting and the woodworkers will have their skills tested to the limits.

Daniel Fromm, the commissioning editor of Channel 4 Popular Factual, described the upcoming series as "an antidote to our times".

Daniel added: "It celebrates the extraordinary craftsmanship and artistry of the country’s finest woodworkers."

Each episode of the show will be focused around a so-called big build, in which the contestants are tasked with designing and building large and imaginative wooden structures.

And their efforts will subsequently be judged by some industry experts, who will run the rule over their designs, techniques and skills.
