Mel B’s mother: I ‘failed to protect’ my daughter

Mel B’s mother says she "failed to protect" her daughter.
The former Spice Girl is currently in the midst of a bitter divorce battle with her estranged husband Stephen Belafonte – where she alleges he was physically abusive towards her – and now her mom Andrea has spoken of her upset at not being able to keep her daughter safe.
Alongside a broken heart emoji, she tweeted: "Cried so much lately Melanie was with an abuser but the extent could never imagine … I 2 failed to protect her. (sic)"
It comes after Mel claimed she was drugged for most of her 10-year marriage to Stephen.
Philip Cohen, one of Stephen’s lawyers, said: "Miss Brown now takes the position she was drugged by Mr Belafonte throughout the course of the marriage."
And Mel had admitted that her father Martin’s death gave her the "clarity and strength" to get her life "on the right track".
In an emotional post on Instagram, she wrote: "The pain of loosing my daddy is beyond anyone could ever understand, but in the mist of all my raw emotions and pain of his passing he gave me the clarity and strength to set my life on the right track.
"And I’m sooo thankful of this awakening from march 4th when he died I now live in my truth to correct with no shame the life every girl/daddy’s girl should live, and that’s a life with no fear or disrespect. But a life with ONLY love and respect and honesty. (sic)"
Mel recently got back in touch with her estranged mother after they fell out several years ago, supposedly over her family’s unhappiness at her relationship.
Asked how she got on meeting her again, Mel – who has Phoenix, 18, Angel, 10, and Madison, six – said: "Yes, she came down yesterday, saw the kids and watched the show. Then we hung out and went for dinner with the kids."
