Mel and Sue ‘furious’ with makers of The Great British Bake Off

Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins were reportedly furious they were not among the first people to know about ‘The Great British Bake Off’ leaving the BBC.
The presenting duo recently announced they were quitting the programme after it was confirmed that it was to move to Channel 4 – and their decision is said to have been influenced by Love Productions’ failure to keep them in the loop about the switch.
The makers of the show recently accepted a £75 million offer from the broadcaster to take the ‘Bake Off’ from its original home on the BBC, prompting Mel, 48, and Sue, 46, to walk away from the programme.
A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "It was very last minute. Mel and Sue only got a very brief heads-up before it was being reported everywhere and they’re an integral part of the show."
Meanwhile, Jo Wheatley, who won the show in 2011, admitted that the departure of Mel and Sue is a major setback for the programme.
She said: "I can’t imagine ‘Bake Off’ without them. They will be hard to replace.
"I was anxious filming, but Mel and Sue’s humour and relaxed approach made me feel totally at ease."
Ian Cumming, the runner-up in 2015, echoed the same sentiment.
He explained: "Mel and Sue brought a humour and lightness that makes the show ‘Bake Off’ rather than something serious like ‘Masterchef’.
"It’s the crucial thing they bring. I just can’t imagine it will have the same success and charm. It won’t be the same. It will lose huge audience figures as a result."
