Maura Higgins: Family and friends are all that matters

Maura Higgins says family and friends are "all that matters".
The ‘Love Island’ star revealed she doesn’t care about social media trolls and rumours, and insisted the important thing is how "your loved ones" treat you.
Appearing on ITV’s ‘This Morning’ on Wednesday (07.08.19), she said: "There’s so many people in the world that are afraid for people to have a bad opinion of them.
"You know what? Once your family and friends – your loved ones – love you and know you and care about your opinion, that’s all that matters."
The 28-year-old model was on the daytime magazine show giving advice to viewers, and she admitted she once got dumped over the phone as she insisted "they will come running back".
She added: "This actually happened to me, it was over a phone call, and it was the hardest thing to get over.
"Someone broke up with me over the phone – you know what, they will come running back. If you cut all contact, they will come running back."
Maura has joined the ‘This Morning’ team for both the regular phone-in advice slot and the segment ‘Maura Than Meets the Eye’, in which she will take on challenges across the country.
She recently admitted she was excited about her new roles and described it as a dream come true.
She said: "I’m getting flutters about joining ‘This Morning’. I can’t believe it. It’s beyond my wildest dreams.
"I’ve grown up watching Phillip [Schofield], Holly [Willoughby], Eamonn [Holmes], Ruth [Langsford] and the team. Mad to think I’m now part of that iconic family. Can’t wait to crack on."
‘This Morning’ editor Martin Frizell said: "Maura was the stand out star of this year’s villa antics with her straight-talking opinionated views."
