Matthew Kelly to front new TV show

Matthew Kelly is set to return to screens to front a new family show on Channel 5.
The 68-year-old presenter was all over the small screen during the 80s and 90s – fronting talent series ‘Stars in Your Eyes’ for 11 years – before turning to acting full-time.
But the legendary star will be back with a bang this year as he’s been asked by the broadcaster to helm a new programme called ‘Top of the Box’ – dubbed "the TV time machine" – as viewers are taken back to the most loved shows in television history.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: "Matthew counts down that year’s 20 highest rated programmes.
"The stars and makers of the year’s top telly share the inside secrets and we reveal which was the year’s highest rated show — the ‘Top Of The Box’."
It looks set to be a busy year for Matthew as he’s also agreed to reprise his role as host for a one-off special of ‘Star in Your Eyes’ to raise money for Prevent Breast Cancer.
A post on the aid organisation’s website reads: "Hosted by Matthew Kelly himself, we are recreating this iconic show in every way possible, thanks to Endemol Shine, ITV and most of the original production crew! (sic)"
The show will take place at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester on June 2.
The post adds: "Prevent Breast Cancer would like to sincerely thank Matthew Kelly, Mike Hayes, Paul Maddocks and the entire team for donating their time and services in helping us recreate this show! (sic)"
The original ‘Stars in Their Eyes’ series spanned from 1990 to 2006 and captured the hearts of the nation as members of the public impersonated big star names, with Kylie Minogue, Madonna, Cher, George Michael, Dolly Parton, Elvis Presley, and Celine Dion among the most popular.
Following the initial run, Harry Hill hosted a revamped version of the programme in January 2015, but it was cancelled after just one series due to low ratings.
A source said at the time: "There are no plans to bring it back.
"Bosses liked it but it just didn’t resonate with the viewers."
