The ‘Top Gear’ host – who worked with the radio presenter on the motoring show in 2016 until he quit midway through the series – has admitted he hasn’t had the chance to catch up with Chris since he left the show because they’re both so occupied with work.
In an interview with the BBC, the former ‘Friends’ actor said: "He’s supposed to be here, I don’t know where he is…
"You know, I haven’t spoken to Chris. I haven’t. Not because… I just, I’ve been busy, he’s been busy, I have no animosity towards him, you know."
In 2015, Chris signed a three-year contract to take over the presenting job from Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May on the show.
However, the nation was left shocked when he announced he wasn’t "the right fit for the show" in July 2016 after just one series – leaving his co-host Matt on his own.
He tweeted at the time: "Stepping down from Top Gear. Gave it my best shot but sometimes that’s not enough.
"I feel like my standing aside is the single best thing I can now do to help the cause."
‘Top Gear’ will return for the 25th series this weekend and Matt believes it has the potential to remain on screen for another 40 years.
He said: "Why not? It’s a timeless show. I wonder what they’ll be covering in 41 years? If we’re making flying cars, I’m sure ‘Top Gear’ will be talking about that. It’s a very strong brand. There will always be a place for it because human beings have a strong sense of independence, and the car gives you that. You start the car on your driveway and suddenly you’re the master of your own destiny. That’s a very human instinct."
