Matt Edmondson understands frustration over Honey G

Matt Edmondson thinks some of the ‘X Factor’ contestants are "annoyed" by Honey G’s popularity.
The ‘Xtra Factor’ host insists the controversial rapper offers "entertainment" to viewers, so can understand why she has proved a hit with audiences, but he also expects that to be frustrating for the more conventionally-talented singers in the competition.
Asked if the other hopefuls have turned against Honey G, he said: "She has captured the public’s imagination. I can imagine that some of the contestants who regard themselves as better singers might be annoyed.
"She’s offering a different kind of entertainment but I can see why other people might be annoyed."
And Matt pointed to the success of his ‘Xtra Factor’ co-host Rylan Clarke-Neal as proof the contestants don’t have to be the best singers to do well.
He said: "During his year, Rylan was the joke act and brilliant people went out before him but he was offering something else too – he was entertaining and mouthy.
"The world would be a less fun place without people like Rylan in the mix."
Meanwhile, the 30-year-old presenter admitted there is a lot of flirting going on backstage, with contestant Matt Terry and digital presenter Roman Kemp in the thick of it.
He told heat magazine: "I know Gifty Louise really fancied Matt Terry in a big way before she was voted off.
"Matt gets so much attention – everyone flirts with him.
"He has a bit of a Harry Styles quality about him and he’s the kind of guy you want to take home to your mum.
"Though Roman is the biggest flirt I have ever met. I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes after one of the Four of Diamonds girls."
