Matt Di Angelo cries in his dressing room

‘EastEnders’ actor Matt Di Angelo cries in his dressing room after filming tough scenes.

The 27-year-old star’s character Dean Wicks has been involved in some harrowing storylines over the past few months, including raping his sister-in-law Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) and his grandfather Stan Carter (Timothy West) being diagnosed with terminal cancer and begging to be euthanized, and Matt has confessed he struggles to unwind after filming.

Speaking about his return to the role last year after six year break, he shared: "I worked through all my holidays last year. And I did some scenes the other day with Timothy West. I was sobbing my heart out. That can only be raw.

"You have to think of things that make you cry because I can’t just cry on cue.

"Then when you go to that place in your head and you’re crying your eyes out for 20 minutes, then the scene is done, and you’re just in your dressing room crying for like an hour, on your own, You’re like ‘F**k!’

"You can’t shake it off because those things are still in your head and you’re still really upset. You open that door and it all comes flooding out. I’m not overly emotional, so when I do get emotional I find it hard to switch it off. I go to different things… things best left alone in those recesses of the brain."

The former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ contestant – who admits he’s no longer in touch with his professional partner and ex-girlfriend Flavia Cacace – claims it would be a good idea to have a psychiatrist on the set of the BBC One soap for when scenes get too demanding.

He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "An on-site psychiatrist? Genius idea. An on-set psychiatrist everyone can use – not just the actors, I’m sure someone in every department could do with talking to someone about how stressful it is."

Matt’s character returned to Albert Square in last night’s (18.02.15) episode of ‘EastEnders’ after being chased out of Walford by Linda’s husband Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) and will be seen taking their daughter Nancy (Maddy Hill) hostage when she catches him trying to burn down the Queen Vic pub in tonight’s (19.02.15) episode.
