Matt Berry starring in Year of the Rabbit

Matt Berry is returning to Channel 4 in spoof cop comedy ‘Year of the Rabbit’.
The former ‘Toast of London’ actor will star as "hardened booze-hound" Detective Inspector Rabbit in the show – set in Victorian London – alongside Freddie Fox as his by-the-books but hapless partner, and Susan Wokoma will portray his adoptive daughter who becomes the UK’s first female police officer.
The trio will fight crime while rubbing shoulders with street gangs, crooked politicians, Bulgarian princes, spiritualists, music hall stars and the Elephant Man.
The group are loosely based on Scotland Yard’s real life Murder Squad, which was tasked with – among other cases – finding notorious killer Jack the Ripper.
Set in Victorian London, it’s thought the murderer and his Whitechapel murders could feature in the comedy in some way.
The show has been penned by ‘Veep’ and ‘Black Books’ writers Kevin Cecil and Andy Riley, while former ‘The IT Crowd’ star Matt has provided additional material.
The 44-year-old actor is excited to be back working with the broadcaster again, and he’s thrilled at the prospect of the show itself.
He said: "I’m very much looking forward to working with Channel 4 again … as I’m equally looking forward to stepping back in time to fight crime in the same significant year which bought us Van Gogh’s Sunflowers, The Elephant Man and of course Jack The Ripper."
‘Year of the Rabbit’ is due to start filming later this year, and the six part series is expected to air in 2019.
