Matt Baker wants to join Rickshaw Challenge despite quitting The One Show

Matt Baker is still planning to take part in The One Show’s Rickshaw Challenge, despite quitting the show.
The 42-year-old TV presenter celebrated nine years co-hosting the BBC One show during his final appearance on Tuesday night (31.03.20), and he unveiled plans to continue with the ‘Children in Need’ challenge.
Speaking to his fellow presenter Alex Jones on ‘The One Show’, via video link from his home, he said: "A lot of people keep asking me, am I going to be doing the 10th one? And let’s hope so. That is my plan. Goodness me, it makes such a difference and if I can find a way to make it happen – all being well the rest of this year – then we will be on for number 10."
Each year, Matt teams up with a group of six young people to take part in an eight-day challenge across the UK.
Last year, the team made their way to the finish line at BBC Elstree Studios after tackling the highest village in Britain, Flash, which is based in the Peak District, and the steepest street in the world in Harlech, Wales.
A team of engineers at the McLaren Technology Centre were able to create a rickshaw that enables visually impaired and blind riders to participate in the challenge by attaching a quad-bike to the front of the Rickshaw which allows steering and braking to be managed by a guide rider while a visually impaired rider pedals from the main driving seat of the Rickshaw.
Matt has enjoyed witnessing so many lives change thanks to the annual event, and it has become a "big part" of his life since he joined the board of trustees.
He added: "When you are part of something that’s life-changing for so many people, it’s incredibly special. ‘Children in Need’ is a big part of my life as well. I am on the board of trustees and have been for many years, working alongside the late great Terry Wogan.
"It’s a passion of mine and when you know that when you put a bit of effort in, it makes such a difference, then you just can’t not do it. It’s a highlight of my year, you know."
