Mariah Carey’s teenage daughter Monroe looks set to follow in her mother’s music footsteps.
The 14-year-old offspring of the 56-year-old pop diva and 44-year-old comedian Nick Cannon – who is a twin to Moroccan – has shown off her vocal capabilities in performances with her mom onstage and on TikTok and has reportedly been in the studio.
What’s more, Mariah is taking measures to ensure her daughter is protected should she pursue a professional career in music by trademarking her name.
The We Belong Together hitmaker’s firm Lotion LLC lodged a request with the US Patent and Trademark Office for Monroe Carey to be used for musical performances, audio, music videos and “other entertainment information”.
What’s more, she asked that the moniker be patented for “clothing, headwear, merchandise to promote a musical artist”.
An insider told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Mariah has a wealth of experience in the industry and was cautious when Monroe suggested she would like to be a musician.
“But she knows it’s what she wants to do and she’s fully supporting her and doing everything she can to help.
“Monroe doesn’t want to just use her mum’s little black book to make it as a singer, but her guidance has been invaluable.
“It’s early days but she’s been in the studio trying things out
“She’s got a brilliant voice and if things go to plan it won’t be too long before the world hears it.”
Mariah recently teased that her daughter is keen to make a name for herself in music.
She told The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon: “My daughter’s into music, and she likes music.
“She used to sing with me on my Christmas tour, but I don’t know if she’s doing it this year. I’m trying to get her to do her own thing. I think she wants to. So possibly.”
