Mandip Gill confirms Doctor Who Christmas special has been filmed

Mandip Gill has confirmed the upcoming ‘Doctor Who’ festive special has already been filmed.

The 32-year-old actress – who plays companion Yasmin Khan alongside Jodie Whittaker’s Time Lord in the BBC sci-fi series – has revealed the team were able to shoot the upcoming special before the coronavirus pandemic halted production.

She told EW: "I can confirm that [it’s already been shot]… There is a festive episode.

"We happened to be quite lucky and fit it in, so that will be exciting."

Showrunner Chris Chibnall recently updated fans and revealed the crew were working from home to keep things on track.

He explained: "Post-production continues on ‘Revolution of the Daleks’.

"Our brilliant teams are working remotely on the visual effects shots and sending them in.

"Nothing brightens a day like a new FX shot in your inbox, no matter how early the stage it’s at."

The highly-anticipated episode – titled ‘Revolution of the Daleks’ – was announced in March after the programme’s season 12 finale.

And Chris previously promised "thrills, laughter, tears" from the new adventure, but he didn’t have any more details on exactly when it will air.

He said: "We can’t leave the Doctor there! On that cliffhanger! Well, we did.

"But rest assured, the Doctor and her friends will be back for a one-off extended Special around Christmas and New Year.

"I don’t know when you’re going to put it on yet, otherwise we’d tell you! There will be Daleks, there will be exterminations. Thrills, laughter, tears. You know. The usual. See you at the end of the year."

And Charlotte Moore – BBC’s director of content – also teased the clash between the Doctor, her companions and the iconic monsters.

She added: "I can’t wait for the Doctor to go into battle with the ultimate enemy in this year’s Daleks festive special."
