Maisie Williams to star in Doctor Who

Maisie Williams is to star in the new series of ‘Doctor Who’.

The ‘Game of Thrones’ actress has spent her first day on set shooting her guest role in the BBC sci-fi series today (30.03.15) and she is thrilled to be joining Peter Capaldi – who plays the titular Time Lord – in the TARDIS.

She said: "I’m so excited to be working on ‘Doctor Who’ as it’s such a big and important part of British culture."

Showrunner Steven Moffat is equally delighted to have got her on the programme and has teased her character is doing to give the Doctor "hell".

He said: "We’re thrilled to have Maisie Williams joining us on ‘Doctor Who’. It’s not possible to say too much about who or what she’s playing, but she is going to challenge the Doctor in very unexpected ways. This time he might just be out of his depth, and we know Maisie is going to give him exactly the right sort of hell."

Maisie is a three-time Screen Actors Guild Awards nominee and as well as playing Arya Stark in the HBO fantasy series she also starred in drama movie ‘The Falling’.

She will appear in two period adventures of ‘Doctor Who’; ‘The Girl Who Died’, written by Jamie Mathieson and Moffat, and ‘The Woman Who Lived’ by Catherine Tregenna.

‘Poldark’ director Ed Bazalgette is helming the two episodes.

Also confirmed for guests roles in the stories are Rufus Hound and ‘Horrible Histories’ star Tom Stourton.

‘Doctor Who’ – also starring Jenna-Louise Coleman as companion Clara Oswald – returns to BBC One this autumn.
