Macaulay Culkin has accused his father of being "mentally and physically" abusive to him as a child.
The 37-year-old actor shot to stardom as a child actor in hit movie series ‘Home Alone’, but has alleged that during that time, his "jealous" father Kit Culkin became abusive toward him, and threatened to "hit" him if he put in a bad performance.
According to The Blast, Macaulay told the ‘WTF’ podcast that his father used to tell him: "Do good or I’ll hit you".
The actor also alleges that Kit was both "mentally and physically [abusive] across the board," but that he "caught the brunt of it."
The ‘My Girl’ star insisted that his relationship with Kit soured before he became a child star, but alleges that his fame caused tensions to worsen as it made his father "jealous".
He added: "Everything he tried to do in life, I excelled at before I was 10 years old."
When Macaulay was 15, he famously took his parents to court over his $17 million fortune and successfully removed them as the legal guardians, and admits that his parents’ split after his role in ‘Richie Rich’ – which marked his final performance as a child star – was "one of the best things that ever happened".
Macaulay said: "[I] was able to actually walk away from the business."
It comes after the star previously explained that despite only being in his 30s, he’s "essentially retired" after shooting to fame at the age of 10.
He said: "I’m a man in his mid-30s who’s essentially retired. I kind of go where the wind takes me a little bit."
Macaulay went on to explain he spends most of his days painting, writing in his notebooks, and "whatevering."
When he in the US, the actor lives in the New York apartment he bought when he was 19 and only goes out when he is unlikely to be spotted.
He admitted: "I’ll take walks at two or four in the morning, because there’s nobody out on the streets and it’s easy for me to go unnoticed."
