Lucy Layton re-releases New Seekers song for charity

Paul Layton’s daughter has re-released The New Seekers’ hit ‘I’d Like to Teach the World To Sing (In Perfect Harmony)’ for charity.
Lucy Layton performed the song at Syria Relief’s Step Forward event at London’s The Shard last night (22.09.16) to mark the launch of the single, from which all the proceeds will go to the cause, which provides support and care to the 7.6 million internally displaced by the conflict in Syria.
The original tune was a UK number one hit for The New Seekers in 1971 and became known as "the Coca-Cola song" after appearing in the brand’s Hilltop TV commercial.
The charity night, in aid of the Syria Relief #StepForward project, raised a total of almost £40,000 to go towards buying new prosthetic body parts for children in Syria who have been gravely injured, and Lucy admitted everyone connected with the event were delighted with the response.
She exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "Nearly £40,000 was raised last night from ticket sales and our auction. I’m flabbergasted because it goes all to the children at the prosthetic clinic.
"We’re just touched and so grateful to everyone who came along to support the cause."
Lucy’s father Paul, bassist and vocalist for The New Seekers, was also in attendance at the event, where she performed several tracks from her debut album ‘Downbeat and Loved’.
The New Seekers sold more than 12 million copies of the original song, including 96,000 copies in one day.
Lucy’s version can be downloaded from her official website and the Syria Relief website.
